Unhappy New Mennonite Church

We have always enjoyed our Old Order Horse and Buggy Mennonite neighbors. But the younger ones have slowly been drifting away.

Well a New Mennonite Church started that allows Cars and Electric in the home.Plus one thing we noticed is the members put signs along the road by their houses that have Bible Scriptures.

Well today we went to the Mennonite Bulk Store a woman came in that we use to go to Church with,my wife use to work for her,she treated my wife very badly so she qiut. But anyway this woman had joined the Mennonite Church.

Just don't know what to think of this New Church but I'm sure it will change the way their way of treating people and the way they do business.I do feel they will not be any different than people of different beliefs if this makes sence.

All my Mennonite neighbors have cars and electric. The Amish don't but the Mennonites do. Did you mean Amish?

That's the way it is here too. There are the "Black Car Mennonites" and the rest of them. Most of them don't look any different than other folks.

We have lots of Amish around here too...mostly Swartzentruber. They have black buggys with no lights and no slow-moving vehicle signs. They wear all black most of the time too.

Like so.This is Mennonites. The way we tell difference here is the Amish Men have Beards the Mennonites don't.Thats why the Amish thought I belong to them because I dressed the same.

In regards to "allowing" cars and electricity.....I have never understood why so many denominations have to add to the bible. Aren't God's rules sufficient? Why do so many feel they need to add to the rules to improve man?

Well I am totally confused then because NO Amish that I have ever eard of have cars or electric only Mennonites are allowed that. The Amish men here wear beards Some of the Mennonite men do too but they are trimmed not like the Amish who it looks like they just let their beards grow. The Amish women dress in black as well as the men but the Mennonite women dress in colors. The women's hats are different also. The Amish wear black bonnets and the Mennonite ones wear white ones that just cover their hair which is put up in a bun.

I believe neither group has zippers on their clothes

I notice the Amsih men also smoke and the Mennonites don't at least the ones I know.

The way I understand its up to the Church on Dress and Lifestyle with either Amish or Mennonite.

The Amish Men here wear Bib Coveralls and Black Ball Caps. But Amish and Mennonite women both wear the White Head Covers and the Black Bonnets at times and Black Shawls.Noticed a few Mennonites Smoking but they are discrete.

The Amish and Mennonites believe that some of mankind's "improvements" cause a deterioration of society. Each group has a board (ordnung) that decides which improvements are allowed among their people.

Just imagine if we could do a re-do on some of the things that have been allowed into our homes and society...

I got a laugh one time.My wife went to the Mennonite Church to see about selling their Goods over the Internet. They just laughed at her, said pushing it an't you?

But there is a Guy now using Mennonites to sell his Goods. He found its the only way you can sell anything around here.

Hey all, you will never figure us out, it's called 'Stealth Christianity" hahahah

No, seriously, I have been in the conservative Mennonite church for over 20 years now and if I go to any area that has lots of unfamiliar churches, I can't figure what church they go to either.

When our church ladies go up to Lancaster, Pa to spend a day of fabric shopping, we have 2-3 ladies that are from that area but married men from out church and moved to our area. So us ladies not from Pa, will ask them, " Is she an old older? and we will usually be told, "No, she's a Joe Wenger, or no, she's a Martinite or no, she' s a 49'er. There are splits and resplits. And yes, Mennos do have beards in some churches and yes Amish do almost always have beards unless they aren't married but so do some before they are married, and the Amish that Big Rockpile says drive cars are probably Beachy Amish.

And there are Amish Mennonites and there are Brethern in Christ and River Brethren and Church of the Brethren and Old German Baptist Brethren and they all wear beards and drive cars and you might be confusing some of them with Amish and/or Mennonites.

Don't even try, it's impossible.

Yes, I agree....the simple zipper, as innocent as it may appear to be, has destroyed whole civilizations.

Old Order Mennonites are horse and buggy. Most Mennonites are not, but the Old Order are. It is hard to tell them apart from Amish.

I don't know I just love it when they come to the outlet mall in their sneakers talking on their cell phone. Let me tell you whoever they are (mennonite I believe) they can spend a pretty penny at Carter's, they always come in my store but have yet to buy anything.

Around here we have old order Mennonites and Beachy Mennonites and Holdeman Mennonites and Amish and Mennonite Brethren (which my family is) along with a few others and they range all the way from the Amish that still ride in horse and buggy to the Mennonites that you can't tell apart except for the pastel dresses and white head coverings to ones like my family that dress like everyone else and drive cars and all that.
The Amish don't drive in horse and buggies because of Biblical, but because it is up to each church what to allow that they feel would either benefit the community or cause them to drift apart. That which they feel will cause them to drift from needing each other is not allowed, like cars in some. In the case of dress among some Mennonites, it is their interpretation of verses about how women are to dress and adorn themselves, always with modesty.

Here in PA, Amish buggies are gray, prayer cap is heart shaped. Mennonite (old order) have black buggies and rounded prayer caps. Men on both wear beards if married or given permission by the bishop. No mustaches, because military used to wear mustaches.
