Feeling pretty proud of myself

I made yogurt yesterday!

It turned out delicious, even the kids approve (and they don't care for plain yogurt).

Angie, it was plain, but we have homemade strawberry and blueberry syrup to stir into it, as well as a 'fresh' batch of homemade vanilla extract.

I Love yogurt & have always wanted to make homemade but just never bought a yogurt maker. I don't ever even see yogurt makers at the store.
How long did it take? Could you stir some fruit from the freezer into the yogurt when you make it?

How did you make it, Kris? I make mine in the oven, using just the oven light for heat. It cultures overnight and is ready in the morning.

one problem with homemade is that it 'breaks' when you stir it and it becomes watery. I have bypassed this problem by making mine in little cups so each one can be served or fruit stirred in as needed. Jelly canning jars are great for this, and you can use used lids to cover them in the fridge.

I make my own and I've never owned a yogurt maker. In the winter I use the oven - and oven light works or I can set my oven for 100 degrees, and in the summer I put it in an ice chest out on the back deck with the yogurt and a bottle of hot water. I use quart jars for mine, since we'll often go through a quart a day. We usually add fruit to ours, often frozen blueberries or strawberries that we have put up, and occasionally our home canned blueberries.

I make mine in quart jars, then put in the crock pot on lowest setting. I use some dry milk mixed in with the main milk, which seems to make it thicker, and it doesn't "break". It's worked for me for several years.

I made mine with whole milk from the grocery store, powdered milk, and a little grocery store yogurt for the starter. After it was 'cooked', I put it in a glass jar and put the jar down inside a gallon-sized thermos that I have. Set the lid on top (but didn't screw it down), covered it with a dish towel, and left it alone for six hours.

That's why I was so amazed and proud it turned out! Too easy!
