Mud, Mud, Mud!!!

It has been raining like crazy and the yard is a mud pit! The sheep and goats ars sloshing around in the corral, the dogs have muddy feet, I slipped and fell in the mud while feeding my chickens that are running around wet and muddy!
The kids are full of mud. Why can't the animals stay in their barns/coop and the children stay inside????

Rained here all day Saturday and we have the same situation...big ole mud pit. I slipped in the mud yesterday and scrapped the hide off my knee. I don't see it getting any better either, we have a 50 percent chance of rain again Wednesday.

If there is a municipal yard waste dump near you, there may be wood chips available. Wood chips are THE answer to midwestern mud.
Spread 'em 4 to 6 inches thick and forget about it.
Spread 'em a foot thick for the animals.

I hate it when the barnyard is so messy, and your boots get stuck in the mud as you walk. I sometimes get so aggravated, I go buy a big block of shavings and just try to make me a little walkway out in the barnyard.

I have Carolina Red Clay MUD!!!!!
OMG! that red clay color is almost impossible to get out anything.

MUD MUD MUD MUD MUD go away please.

My barns are all arranged where I don't have to walk thru mud. I handled that a long time ago. My goats refuse to be out in the rain...lol...they always seek shelter.

BUT I am working on my driveway and expanding the size etc and the MUD MUD is driving me nutso.

Mud is definitely a nightmare!!! We just had our septic emptied and they had to dig a huge hole in the middle of the front lawn which has now become a sink hole!!!

When it's that muddy, I can't make it to town. (twelve miles of dirt roads before I hit pavement).

Slogging around in the yard is irritating, but not being able to get in to town for appointments, groceries, etc. is extremely frustrating.
Fortunately, we live in the rain shadow, so we're usually pretty dry.

I've made paths and a dog area with straw in the past. That helped me a lot!

If that isn't true. And if you get stuck down there and have to call a wreaker to pull you out it cost BIG $$$.I got lucky and found a Guy with chain to pull me out.

Right now we have to put the pickup in 4WD all the way to the highway.

Our mud, mud, mud from December's storm (2+' Snow) has turned to snow, snow, snow again. We've had about 5' since Monday with the worst part of it going on now. It takes so long to shovel to the animals. We did it three times yeterday to try to stay ahead of it. All that was gained was lost when it started raining during the late afternoon feeding. Getting ready to go out to shovel to feed this morning. DH has been shoveling since 4:30 this am. It's heavy with the rain soaked snow. Life in a mountain town.

I agree, I look at the pony and say.... STAY IN!!!! Last night I think it finally got to the point where she couldn't get out anymore. We'll see what the morning holds. I mucked the barn last weekend to prepare for this, I'll have to much today to lay down new cedar for clean bedding. It got kind of gross with them being in there so much this week. Time to run.

We're suppose to get some snow over the next few days, but I'd be happy to take any extra you don't want. We have only a foot or so for the whole winter so far. With the beetle kill, and this little moisture it's going to be a hell of a fire season. I just finished cutting about an acre of timber below the house, and hope that will be enough.

Straw helps with our chicken coop areas, keeps eggs cleaner as well. What Im having a "HAIR PULLING" annoyance with is the PUPPY PAW prints all over my wood floors!! LOL I know better than to even "CLEAN" it up cuz next potty break it will be RIGHT BACK!!!

We got 1 3/4" yesterday on top of the 3" last weekend. Our chicken pens and yard are squishy too. DH went in the chicken pen to feed up and gather the 1 egg we got because he didn't want me to slip down and hurt myself. We are supposed to get more rain on Sunday, so I guess we won't be doing much work outside this weekend.

i have to put chains on my 4WD just to get around the homestead
and i've built walk-ways using wood pallets around the stable / feed-room.
luckily i'm only about 2 miles down dirt [mud] road to blacktop.

Animals are safe and sound and fed. I would upload pictures, but I can't find the photos and album link under usercp. Roofs are collapsing on the big businesses. The local newspaper said 10 businesses so far. I've been up shoveling a neighbor's trailer's roof every day so far. I'll get to it once more today. I'm grateful God is keeping everything safe here so far. DD just called about stopped up sinks (?!), so off I go up the road.

I now have mud everywhere too, we have been hit lightly until this week and even though its not sunny its warm enough to melt all day and night. Kids can't do any chores because they get stuck in the mud. (It actually stole my 3yr old shoe lol)
I am just praying it drys up enough for hubby to come home next weekend-- he couldn't this weekend due to every route here having at least one road closed.
