heart burn

what are some things that will help heart burn? DH has been eating antacids, and has drank a glass of milk. Just started last night, not an ongoing thing so i don't think it is acid reflux.

Any suggestions?

Don't lay down. But, if he must lay down, it is best to lay on your left side. Milk actually increases acid in your stomach. A quarter teaspoon of baking soda in a half up of water will help, but I wouldn't do it very often. Also eating some dry crackers may help temporarily.

Heartburn is also a sign of a heartattack. Don't want to scare you but a trip to the ER would be in order. Doesn't hurt to be safe.

If nothing is working, it could be heart issues rather than 'heart burn.'

No ma'am, I really wouldn't.

White vinegar has several properties that contribute to the aggravation of heartburn. It is acid forming ... leads to extra acidity in the blood and the intestines, which contributes to the frequency of experiencing of acid reflux and to its level of severity.

Organic apple cider vinegar when ingested cannot only alkalize your system (being the only alkaline forming vinegar), but it can also significantly relieve the inflammation of the esophagus and help control Candida.

Do you happen to have apples on hand? Eating one may help neutralize the acid in his system ... or a carrot or potato?

Hard peppermint candy may bring some temporary relief.

I've even heard a spoonful of brown sugar may help ... but I've never personally tried that one, so I'm curious.

Get him to ER- a friend swalloed tums like crazy for a week, then had a heart attack. I Made him go to hospital. They said he would have probably died if he hadn't gone. If nothing IS helping with the heartburn, get him checked out!!!

I was out of the organic apple cider vinegar and was forced to use the regular kind from the grocery store. It still did the job but I have to cut it with a little juice in order to choke it down... Nasty stuff!!

He is ok today. He will not go to the er for nothing. He is 28, and invincable (in his mind that is). I think it may have had something to do with the wine we drank the night before. we drank a little more than ussual. Not sure though. I will pick up some Apple cider vinegar to have on hand.
also, i will mention the heart attack possibility.

My Dh used to have heartburn all the time, day and night. I started making him take a multi vitamin everyday........he does this to humor me lol but after about 3 weeks his heartburn was gone, didn't change his eating habits or any thing else. His allergies are in check now too. He hasn't had either problems to any extreme now for almost 5 years.

This fall I was getting bad heart burn. Wasn't sure if it was something more critical. Doctor did EKG and all that. Just heart burn. Turns out the likely cause was that I had been taking a lot of Ibuprofen for some broken ribs. Apparently that causes stomach upset. He recommended Tylenol instead. By then the ribs were healed but next time I used the Tylenol.

Cheers

Ya probably should go to the dr. to be checked out..i had heartburn for a long time and nothing really helped so it started to get me down so went to the dr and she done a test with a scope down the stomach and took a biopsy and it turned out to be 'barret's esophagus' which is one step away from some sort of stomach cancer...i am on prilosec 20mg. twice a day and am ok now but dr. said i need to have scope done once a year now.....i love being heartburn free now though !!!
