Imagine by John Lennon

Have been listening to some Beatle music over the holidays and the song "Imagine" by him after these many years has become a favorite of mine. Why can't the world be at peace with each other..no wars..caring for each other ?? Fairy tale world..yes..I suppose but man's greed for more and more I feel..is the reason that the world is in this mess..and probably will never change. Since the beginning of time we haven't changed one bit..I just hope in each of our own "little worlds" and maybe ..just maybe we can change for those around us so we can all make it become a reality in some small way...Just Imagine ?

It will happen, shortly after Christ returns.

This song was my wedding song. Maybe someday, those who need to will begin to imagine, as well.

I have often wondered the same thing. It gives me hope that you wonder too. There must be others!

John Lennon was ahead of his time. In the early seventies he envisioned one world. I still get sad when I think of what he might have contributed if he had not been assassinated.
My other favorite songs of his are Woman, such a beautiful love song.
Also, In My LIfe, and Watching the Wheels.

Well, so much for God. Live for today. Yeah right.

"Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one"

This reminds me of a funny conversation my husband and I had yesterday.

He said, "If everyone in the world believed as you do, the world would be a better place, but if only half did, it wouldn't work at all."

I said, "Because the rest would kill us and steal our stuff, right?"

He said, "Exactly."

I still get choked up when I think how much poorer we are now that we've lost John Lennon. I wonder often at what he may have helped us understand, how he may have (continued) to change us for the better if he were still here. I believe we are collectively suffering because John was killed.
Ironically, I was in college, and writing a paper on how the Beatles changed American culture when Lennon was assasinated. Such a tragic waste.

Thanks for pointing out that many others see and feel the same.
Yes, he was right of course. Religion is at the root of most of the judgement, greed, and war humans conjur. The epitomy of the double-edged sword. That is what he was talking about.

I enjoyed some of John Lennon's songs but if you haven't heard it, David Archuleta took "Imagine" and in my opinion did a much more moving version than John Lennon. Here's the clip...

Oh please, only John Lennon should sing Imagine.

I wouldn't think that Christians would like this song since it speaks of no heaven or hell. I love this song. I want John Lennon's version played at my funeral. And Dust In The Wind by Kansas and Amazing Grace by Judy Collins.

No countries? Look how Conservatives slam Obama if it even appears like he's working towards peace through talking. As long as we Americans think that we need to rule the world with whatever force necessary and our way is the only way, this will never happen. We live in a country that preaches peace as we go to war. We judge our worth by our posessions and who has the biggest or fasted or most expensive gadgets out there. This song was performed by a Brit. His ideals could work in England, but not here.

(Please note that I'm just pointing out how things are. I'm still a proud American because I also believe that there are far more good people in our country than bad and that overall, people do want to work for peace and love. I'm just making a commentary on how our country is today. Not perfect, but still willing to work for it. )

That being said, when I was about 12 years old I remember telling my best friend that I would marry the first man who sang "Woman" to me. Flash forward about 9 years and on our 4rd date my now DH sang that song to me one night as we were dancing in the rain. He never met that friend and I never told him about my pledge. He said it was the first song that came into his mind when he met me. AWEEEE!!!!

nope, not the reason I don't like it. it's a marshmellow song, kittens and butterflies. Goldilocks, not hot, not cold, not anything. "Nothing worth dying for".

Now this song has a little more integrity, and I'm not the only Christian that would like this played at their wake(analyze THAT). I kinda see it as going to clean a little house then dragging whoever I can to Heaven out the other side. (course y'all can get into a discussion about hell/sheol/purgatory etc a la Apostle's Creed, but Jesus done went down into the pit. I figure somewhere along the line us "Christ in Me"s will do some hell-duty too, opening a can of whoop-butt on scary things).

Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too
I'm on the highway to hell
No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payed my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land
I'm on the highway to hell
(Don't stop me)
And I'm going down, all the way down
I'm on the highway to hell

(seriously I can totally hear Jesus singing this song think about it)

Daddy of 4, David does a beautiful rendition of Imagine. What a voice and what emotion he shows! But it is only a rendition. He didn't create the song.
John Lennon was a songwriter, a creative artist. He did not always like his own singing voice. He was so much more than a performer.
How sweet that his music still speaks to us forty years later!
I'm a die hard Lennon fan, can ya tell?

I am not saying his intentions were not good in hoping for world peace, but as Christains we know that until Christ returns, Satan will continue to be present here on earth. The only true PEACE is with Jesus Christ- The Prince of Peace. "Imagine there's no Heaven"...never!
KNOW JESUS, KNOW PEACE
NO JESUS, NO PEACE
