H1N1 Flu Vaccinations

My high school age son brought home a permission slip today for the vaccine.
The school has reported at least 1 case of the H1N1. The school states that they will have the vaccines at a later date. I have read several articles on this, and I still dont know what to do here.

What would you do?

I did NOT sign my son's consent form for the h1n1 vaccine.

He has a wonderful immune system. He's almost 17 and has been sick only 4 times in his life.

The thing about this strain of flu is it seems like it is easier to catch, but no more deadly than the normal flu, if you take care of it.

The folks having problems with it are the ones with underlying issues (upper respitory issues, suppressed immune systems, et al). If you catch it and keep the sick person well hydrated, they should be able to ride it out. Of course, if one of you get the flu, be sure to see your doctor or homepathic and take their recommendations.

As for me and mine ... no h1n1 vaccine here.

I heard wether it's true or not that the H1N1 flu shot has cancer cells in it. How one can find out if it's true or just a rumor I don't know. If any one can find that info out it would be great

My 16 yo dd and I both are getting over H1N1, the boys and dh had it too but for some reason theirs was shorter and not as bad. She has only ever been sick 2 other times in her life and I've only had the flu one other time.

We didn't take tamiflu, the PA that we saw was telling us that H1N1 is resistant to that and at least one other antiviral. We came home and drank elderberry syrup in hot lemonade and took 2,000 mg of vitamin C a day along with garlic mashed up in honey and cider vinegar. The 3rd day of it we ended up on extra strength mucinex dm, apple pectin, sudafed, and ibuprofen for the aching and fever. It was kind of rough, but not as bad as I thought it would be.

I don't know if I would bother with flu vaccines of any variety. To me it just seems like one of those things you risk, like strep throat and the cold.

I have a real problem with flu vac too. I never take them. I remember havingthe flu once in my life and that was over 25 yrs ago. i have heard on the news that they are considering making it mandatory for all health care worrkers take these shots. Being a nurse...this will propose a real delema for me. Beside the fact that I don't want to take it....making it mandatory sounds to big brother to me. Reminds me of when they were forcing all those military men to take anthrax shots and others that weren't tested long enough. They really used them for test subjects....something that has happened frequently in the history of civil service. Frankly...i just don't trust the bastards.

Here in Australia, free Swine Flu vaccines are available for any person at 'high risk'. My doctor rang just last week to suggest I have it, since I come into that category.

So I did. Not even the smallest side-effect, and if there's going to be a side-effect, I'm a dead cert to get it!

I think the latest death toll world-wide from Swine Flu is something in the vicinity of 4000.

Sign the permission form! You are protecting your child by doing so. It is well recorded that this particular strain of flu attacks the young and healthy even more than those 'at high risk'.

I wouldn't let that vaccine near anyone I cared about....and for that matter I wouldn't let it near anyone else either. Very dangerous.

............Which means he has absolutely NO Immunity against the seasonal flu OR H1N1 ! The H1N1 shot is piece of H1N1 virus which cannot reproduce itself but allows the immune system too start manufacturing killer cells when he Does , become exposed to the H1N1 . His immune system will be prepared like a Biological Boy Scout ! , fordy

I did not sign it here either. Every year they come out with a newly named flu that will wipe out us out if we don't get the shot. Norwalk virus was what we all know as the stomache flu, Sars is another example. Now this one. The flu is the flu is the flu, give it any name you want but it is the flu. I think half the problem is everyone runs to the docs with every little sneeze or sniffle, antibacterial this and that and over use of antibiotics. I believe all this combined weakens the natural ability to ward of germs. Other than a knee injury from sports, it has been years since any one here has seen a doc.

It is NOT true. For some reason the conspiracy theorists are all over this shot. This week they came out with a study saying that many of those who died were healthy.

The H1 N1 shot is almost exactly the same as the regular flu shot. The antigen was changed in the H1N1 vaccine. Why in the world would anyone add cancer cells?

We had the same thing here. The kids did not get the vaccine. I won't either. I've gotten the seasonal flu vaccine 3x and in two of those years I ended up being sick from a week after getting the shot until late spring. Never again!

Very true. I took the "regular" flu shot 3 weeks ago and as soon as the H1N1 gets available I will also get that.
I talked to my doctor just last week and she will be getting one and said it is just a preventative just like the regular flu shot is and all this stuff going around that the H1N1 vaccine is bad, is just pure bunk and nothing else.

Not one of the links on the first page of results where cancer cells are mentioned are from a credible source. There is so much misinformation out there that it makes me sick....no pun intended.

To date, Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg who first made the claim of the H1N1 shot containing cancer cells has not proven this despite numerous requests from around the world.

I will be getting the shot along with my G/F who is a nurse...and no she is not being forced by her hospital employer to have the H1N1 shot.

I am also in Missouri and our entire county got 13 doses of the vaccine this past week - just 13. I find it interesting that your school is going to be offering it to kids and our school can't even get it for staff - not that I would take it. I think we are in the midst of our breakout. Nurse sent home 38 kids Thursday and the elementary was hit hard on Friday. One class had 5 kids in it. Since the vaccine takes a couple of weeks to be effective, I think it is too late for the majority of the folks over on the elementary. I fully expect it to hit over on the high school side in the next week or so.

According to my Dr all H1N1 shots are free in the US. Not just for the high risk people. So everyone here can toss cost out of the equation when they choose to do. Our family is going to get it. Our reasons for getting it may not be valid for other people.

The greatest thing with this shot is we all have the choice to do what we feel is best for our families!!

No flu shot is free for anyone. Some people's insurance may cover it at 100% but it's not free. Flu shots are usually around $25 or $30 for those who purchase it.
