Question-probably for the "older ladies"?

I have the fur coat my mom wore when she was married in 1950. It is Moutonne (sp?).
What is Moutonne (or however it is spelled)? No one around here really seems to know for sure.
thanks,
Martha

That word sounds like mutton in French.

totally off the subject but..had an old fur coat of my granny's years back and had made a big mink teddy bear for my grandaugter when she was younger. Always remember my granny and great aunt wearing mink coats and it wasn't like we were a rich family by any means..could never figure that out. Enjoy your coat !!

I make teddy bears out of old fur coats - I rootle around at the thrift stores. Haven't lucked out with a mink coat yet.

Mouton is lovely fur, but not much fun to handsew into a bear.

Thanks ladies, I do love that coat, although it is VERY heavy, but it is also very warm. I think lot's of stylish ladies must have had them in the '50's-I know my mom has always been fond of it too, but she gave it to me years ago becuase I begged, lol.

MIL gave me her mink- a bit big but I'm not going for svelte anymore. Expect I will pass it and my alpaca coat on to my girls.

I have MY own mouton coat! My mom bought it for me for an early H.S. grad present...in the 60's. She had a fur-beaver I think-gave it to my DIL when my mom passed on.

Yes, it is sheared lamb. My mother had one, too. It was probably fashionable in the 1940s, but she refused to give it up because it kept her so warm.
