Back and MRI

You all probably don't remember, but back in early Dec. I fell while moving a large shelf unit. Wood 2'x2'x6'. Well I have been having problems with my back since 2000, when I hurt the lower back at work.

Then back in 2005 I fell, my foot landed on some leaves that was on a handicap ramp and I fell. Well from this last fall in Dec. 2008 I just never did get over it. So when I went for my yearly exam I was telling the Dr. I was still having lots of pain from it. He sent me for an MRI. It came back, I have some cracked vertebra's. One of them is an old fracture, I'm thinking it was when I fell back in 2005.

So they sent me for lumbar epidural injections last Thurs. This time I had three at one time. Thank goodness they put me to sleep to do them.

In 1994 I was out of work 4 months with a bad back injury. I also had 3 epidural steriod injections. They DIDN'T put me to sleep for them and I screamed so loud I scared off the lady whose appointment was right after mine.I like to think I have a high threshhold for pain but for me, the epidurals were worse than the back pain. I finished the series but they didn't help me at all. Very disappointed as so many people I knew had the epidurals for severe back pain and they worked quite well for everyone else. Of course, I have a genetic malformation in the sacral area. I think the idea of putting you under for the epidural is a good one. Hope it works well for you.

I hope they help you, Ruby. Back pain is just so...horrid, I guess is the right word. Most people understand headaches, broken arms, legs, etc....but with back pain it's so INDIVIDUAL. One person can go along with no pain for months and then be knocked off their feet, while another person with the same diagnosis will be in constant pain. And those who've never HAD ruptured discs, or cracked vertebrae, or fact joint disease...they don't really understand that "omg, I'm frozen and can't (or don't dare) move" thing.

Good luck with the shots. Please let us know how it's going
