What is up with Mountain Dew?

I watched an ABC special, about folks who are all about moutain dew soda. some of the children have rotten teeth, and the adults drink it like water.
I suppose what I am asking is "whats up with that"
we drink water here, sometimes tea and sometimes coffee...but mostly water.
Check this website out
http://www.watercure2.org/

its real, and its a lifestyle...
can you drink half your body weight in ounces (if you are 200lb, thats five aquafina bottles) an eigth teaspoon of UNREFINED sea salt (It is not white) per quart, you will be happier and healthier.

Well, Mtn. Dew has BUBBLES...

It is a horrible addiction and I have been MDew-free for over a year. (except at restraunts, rarely)

Yes, drink water. It is better for you.

I drink a gallon a day of plain ole well water (well, with ice). I hardly ever have any kind of soda. But I do like a glass of plain seltzer once in a while, with a squirt of lime or lemon.

I think it's a sugar addiction in the Mt. Dew folks, or maybe it's the caffeine - Mt. Dew is loaded with it.

I like Mt. Dew once in a while, especially when I was dumb and didn't get in the bed early enough the night before. I can usually only drink half of a can (~6 oz) at a time though. I like water and milk way better though!

I think it's really high sugar, and it might be high acid. Would be a double whammy on tooth enamel.

I have to admit I hate water. I hate the taste of water and the thickness of it. Now, on a really, really hot day if I'm working outside I will drink a lot of ice water. Mostly though I drink Diet Coke. All day. Every day.

I'm sure I'm quite addicted to the caffeine in Diet Coke, but I'm also addicted to the taste. It refreshes me much more than a glass of water.

I would enjoy fruit juice, coffee, tea, milk etc. but all of those cause me pains I won't go into (IBS, GERD, kidney stones, etc.).

I do order Mt. Dew if we eat out though. Diet Coke never tastes right in a restaurant.

I'd like to see that ABC special. I read an article somewhere that said really poor people who practically lived off the stuff would put it in their babies' bottles! Soda for babies!

I try to be better at not judging other people, but sometimes it's hard. Bad Fujiko.

If I drank as much water as you mention I would gain weight like crazy since drinking a lot of water makes me hungry. If I drink 20 oz or so a little before a meal I can eat twice as much before I feel full. I don't tend to drink a lot of soda either so that doesn't have anything to do with it.

I'm a night nurse. I don't like coffee. Mountain Dew is loaded with caffeine and sugar. Do you really need more of an explanation? But, I do limit myself to one 500ml bottle a night.

LOL. The aspartame in diet coke is addictive and it's what CAUSES the IBS, GERD, kidney stones, etc.

I think soda drinking in general is an epidemic in the US, unseen elsewhere in the world. It's kind of sad because I'm sure it contributes to our national problem with obesity. Giving it to children ensures that the addiction begins early.

Dd is almost 8 and has never had a soda. Dh doesn't drink soda at all... ever (though he's not American and nobody in his family drinks it... it just not part of Turkish culture). I'll have a diet coke with lemon when we eat out sometimes. I drink about 1 gallon of water/day and water is my drink of choice. Dd drinks 8oz. milk with lunch or breakfast then drinks either water or fizzy water. Very occasionally she likes to have something she came to enjoy when we lived in Germany called "Apfelsaftschorle", which is equal parts fizzy water and apple juice.

Well, milk is my drink of choice but it is a little on the high side and with two kids we already go through a gallon every two days or so. I usually have one tall glass with lunch. I do enjoy the carbonation of soda, especially first thing in the morning.(As I type this I'm sipping on a coffee cup of coke.) I haven't been drinking enough of anything lately. I think about the fact I should drink water but I'm not in the mood for water so I just go without. I need to do better on that.

We don't give our kids soda in their cups unless they are sick and then they get Sprite or Sierra Mist. Otherwise, they drink juice or milk.

This is delicious with orange juice instead of apple too.

Dd doesn't like it as much, but I enjoyed all of the different schorle flavors including orange... I just don't take the time to make them for myself here in the US.

We weren't allowed to drink soda. It was just too expensive. I was fairly adamant with my kids about it, too. If we were on vacation they could have it once a day but not every meal. They thought I was so mean.

Now that they are older everyone of them has told me that is one of the best things I did for them. It amazes them to see the people that live on soda and what it does to their bodies.

I do remember I had cousins whose mother made them drink milk with meals. I could not imagine how awful that would be. But as a child milk made me vomit. So, water has always been my drink of choice. Nothing tastes as good or feels as good in the mouth.

I quit drinking any carbonated drinks and anything with caffeine. I started drinking bottled water with sugar free flavoring added. That alone knocked 27 pounds off of me. I also sleep better and my blood pressure dropped even before the weight came off.

It's hard to explain, but I know what Ravenlost is talking about. I can't drink our well water because it's 'thick', but I buy bottled 'drinking water' (not distilled) and can drink gallons of it. Much more thirst quenching and makes tea, etc. taste way better. I always blamed it on having extremely hard water....just guessing.

This is a special that Diane Sawyer did on ABC about Appalachian kids. They are the ones addicted to the Mountain Dew. It showed special dental buses that would go around and help with their rotted out mouths. The special was about many different facets of their situation, the Mt Dew problem was just one of the "highlights". Parents on drugs was the biggest problem.
