Weed identification

Does anyone have any idea what this is? It is absolutely taking over my pasture and my goats won't touch it.

I have more pics if needed.

Thank you!

Need to know what part of the country you are in. Looks to me like some kind of nettle, though.

Don't know what it is, sorry. But those flower spikes dry very pretty and look nice in fall bouquets.

I am in middle Tennessee.

I have spent hours and hours trying to find out what it is by googling weeds and can't find anything that matches it.

Some of them are 3 - 4 feet tall.

I agree that it is some sort of nettle if I am seeing correctly and it has a square stem. Do the leaves smell minty at all? It could also be something from the mint family.

Could they be some sort of wild coleus (if there is such a thing)?

Looks like Mint family to me...the catnip I grow has the same flower spikes only white. Square stems is a pretty good tell, doesn't look like any nettle I have ever seen.

Perilla mint!

...and several sites say that it is very toxic to livestock.

You guys ROCK!

I have been searching for weeks trying to identify it.

Well, it is growing all over the place. I've probably got enough to fully cover an acre. Not good. Guess I'll be doing a lot of pulling over the next few weeks.

well, if goats won't eat it it's almost certainly from the 7th circle of hell.

You're welcome! I just happened upon it. I typed "purple square stem weed identification picture" into Google and that site came up.
