Esty vs. eBay
Im curious as to what others prefer, for buying or selling.
I was selling on eBay, but now Ive just started listing on etsy. It's a lot cheaper! Hopefully this will be a good turn for my artwork and doll clothing.
I would like others input, pro's and con's. Both from buyers and sellers. Thanks!!

Your poll has 2 etsy is better for sellers, and no etsy is better for buyers. I'm guessing #4 is supposed to be etsy is better for buyers?
Esty is better for sellers, but only because of the money policies. It does seem to be getting more exposure tho. Problem is that etsy is only for handmade items, and supplies, so it's kind of apples an oranges. For your handmade doll items, I'd go with etsy, and then put your store name EVERYWHERE you can. Join all kinds of forums...not just craft forums, but collector forums, parenting forums...wherever people who buy items like you make gather.

No contest, Etsy is better for both sellers and buyers. E-Bay was ruined and I see no one at E-Bay looks like they want to fix it.

Forget both. Check out Artfire. You pay a flat monthly fee. No extra fees for listing. No percentage of your sale being taken. It's still in beta but the staff is really working hard to give sellers and buyers a great venue. I highly recommend checking it out.

Up North...any idea how they're supporting the website? With no fees, that's going to be tricky. It's worrisome when a new sale site comes in and does the same thing another site does...splitting the pool of sellers/buyers....but has no way of continuing.
Site looks good, tho.

You pay a flat monthly fee. I got in early so I pay $7 a month for life. I believe if you join now it is $12 a month to be a verified member. There is a free option but you are only allowed to list 10 items. If you are a paid member you can list as much as you want.
This link shows a comparison between sites. http://www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=power_up Click on "Compare Options"
Check out the rapid cart. You can paste your shop just about anywhere and people can buy from where ever you paste your shop. Lots of people put their rapid cart in their blogs. I have my rapid cart on my website and on my facebook page. Unlike etsy, artfire lets you put links to your other selling venues on your artfire page. Their goal is to give you as many selling opportunities as possible. This site is growing at a tremendous rate.

I must live in a cave as I've never even heard of Etsy until now. BTW it is Etsy instead of Esty.
My vote will have to be for Ebay as I've just done a few searches and thus far Etsy had none of the items I regularly view on Ebay. Can't really grow if no product to buy. It will be extremely tough to get ahead of Ebay because they've grown so much over the years--even if people view them in a poor light today.

OOPS!! I didn't see that one, cake on my face! lol
Yes, it should be etsy is better for buyers. I also was going to make it multiple choice, but couldn't since I had already posted the poll.
I've just got fed up with eBay. For instance, my paintings to list on ebay would cost me an arm and a leg. Esty, its just 20 cents and if I sell one, I only have to pay 3.5% ot esty.
The only thing now is that I have to practice making better photos of my stuff.

Esty is stricktly for handmade or vintage items. Which is what I like, I don't have to compete with people putting china made stuff up for sale.

Depends on what you are selling. We sell vintage car parts. Ebay was the only place to sell that but now with all their changes we quit doing that. Waiting for some other auction site to be as good as Ebay on the car parts.

I've never sold any of my goodies on e-bay, but I do on etsy. I would do much better with it if I would list more often!
Etsy is suppposed to be for handmade, supplies, and vintage, but you can find other things there too. It seems like every weekend a bunch of China-junk dealers open shops and then get busted and have their goods and shops removed only to do it again the next weekend. Monitoring new shops must be quite a task. I think it would be nice if you had to go through an more detailed application process to sell there, but that hasn't happened yet.
Overall, I'm pleased with etsy. It's cheap and most of the folks on the forums are very helpful and kind. You'll meet a few who aren't , but you'll find that anywhere.

Sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out. I love to buy handmade and vintage items.
Never heard of it before either.
