First, don't take a hot shower to rid yourself of it. The soap will spread it and the hot shower will make it more likely to enter your pores.

Use rubbing alcohol to remove any of the uroshol (sp) oil that is making you itch. Then use a topical poison ivy/oak cream.

Take allergy meds 24/7 for a couple days.

Make sure you wash anything you touch. Certainly de-oil yourself before touching sheets, towel, etc..

I feel your pain, I'm on my third outbreak from poison ivy.

Oh darn no wonder it has spreaded more. I've scratched, scratched an scratched so much it has spreaded even more. Gosh this stuff hurts. I've even gave it to my wife.

Thanks for the help on this. Will give the wife the information to help her get rid of it too.

We both now are itchy like hound dogs. She's at me so now I've got to help her get rid of it too.

Thank You!!!

Look for jewel weed. Almost instant cure. I use it for nettle since I'm not allergic to poison ivy but it works for DH.

I use Zanfel. It is kinda expensive ($36) but when I get poison Ivy or Oak it is worth every penny. It takes me about 2 treatments to dry up but after the 1st I fell relief. You can find this at CVS or Walgreens. I have not been able to find it at Walmart. I have tried every darn home remedy and for some reason they do not help me. I no longer have to go to the doctor to get a shot since I found this stuff. Good luck

What does jewel weed look like? How is it used? I'm having my second outbreak. First outbreak I ended up at the doc getting a shot since it was on my face near my eyes. This time it's again on my face, arms and my eyes are swollen (but not red like elsewhere) and itchy. I'm using calamine lotion everywhere but not the eyes. No insurance right now and dh just lost his job so little money. If necessary I'll see if doc can call something in to the pharmacy.

Pick up some TecNu at CVS pharmacy. It is a product that you wash with (only takes a little dab) after you have been exposed to Poison Oak/Ivy. It will keep you from getting it, or lessen the effect. As soon as I see a little spot of poison oak rash coming up, I wash well, and it keeps it from spreading.

Also, as mentioned above, do NOT scratch, rub, or wash/shower in hot water. I know from personal experience that this will make if much, much worse, and will spread it. I also know from personal experience that you can give it to your spouse.
