Another great weekend on our land!

Well, my man has been camping out on the land for almost a week already. The kids and I went up there on Friday. My Daughters Dad lives fairly close to our new land, so she went there for the weekend. THen on Sunday he brought her out in the morning and stayed all day to help with things and hang out.

I am SO happy with where we moved to. We even met a nice new neighbor. We have ever intention of going around and introducing ourselves, but we haven't yet. On Sunday morning I was waiting for my daughter to come and we heard a truck and thought it was them. But when the truck came into view it wasn't any truck I have ever seen before. The guy pulled up and introduced himself as a 'nosey neighbor'. How funny is that? He stayed and chatted for almost an hour. Said he has lived down the road his whole life. He gave us a neat history lesson on our land which answered a lot of questions and filled in some blanks. Our land is REALLY lumpy and kinda weedy. Turns out that about 20 years ago the owner ran over the land with a cultivator once and then just left it. That would explain the lumps and lack of grass over a large part of it. We also couldn't figure out why there was dirt pushed up here and there and why there was no pine trees. Turns out about 30 years ago the old owner let a logging company in to clear cut all the pine trees. And the reason all the remaining poplar trees are so small is because 25 years ago a fire went through and burned it all. It DID used to be an old homestead and there was a cabin on a hill, but that burned in the fire too. We plan on snooping around and seeing if we can find any old artifacts in the trees.

I started a blog to record our progress.

We did the same. Camped out on our land this weekend, that is.
Ours isn't nearly as far from "home" though, as we're only about 20 miles...

We've owned it for exactly a year now, but we still sat on the big hill and surveyed our domain for a good hour.

When we bought our land (it's 80miles out in the boonies!) we did the same. Camped while just enjoying the property Clearning land, putting in a fenced area, tromping around exploring People stop by "just to meet the people who bought the land"...Nearest neighbor (and the ONLY neighbor for over a mile) was president of the board for the township and he had a lot of input.

Eventually we built a chicken house and stayed in that over winter on the weekends while we were there building the shed WHAT FUN!

So happy you've found your own little chunk of heaven!
