long hair...and 'older' woman..
do you think there is an age that you should cut your hair? I love my hair...and I'm no spring chicken. lol I pin it up or pull it back when I 'go public'. BUT...still..there are some that totally hate long hair on older women. do you? my hair is silky, and it isn't gray. it's brown, BUT lately I've heard comments about women, that they should cut their hair at a certain age. I honestly don't have a clue as to a 'cut' I'd like, and like I said....I love my long hair. I'd love your thoughts.
my hair is down to the middle of my back. if that makes a difference. I went wild last July and had some layers cut, and a little off....but I wasn't thrilled with it still. I can't imagine me in a 'bob' or short. gag. and I detest going to a salon anyway. the smell alone makes me cringe!

Why are you worried about pleasing anyone but yourself?

Around where I live there are several congregations of a religious group where the women never cut their hair. NEVER EVER. My great aunt was a member of this group. She died in her mid 80's and her hair was long enough that it touched the ground.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with long hair, as long as it is kept clean and neat.
Just an old guys perspective.

My grandmother's hair came almost to her thighs, maybe longer. Like you she wore it pinned up most of the time. It was really something when she let it down to wash and comb it though.
Mine is almost to mid back again. I hate layers, just don't have the time and patience to fix hair! And mine IS about half grey at this point.
I think if you like it and it's easier to keep, you should do whatever you want. If those ladies can wear those funky red hats, and don't get me wrong, I think that they are LOTS of fun!, then you can have long hair. Tell 'em I said so.

If your hair is healthy and you like it long, then there is no reason for you to cut it because of the "opinion" of someone who has no say in your life.
And that is my opinion. LOL

I turned 50 in September and keep my hair long. I have always looked better in long hair, and I really don't care what others think. I keep it in a ponytail most of the time, but have other options that I wouldn't if it was short.
The other night I had my jammies on and sat on the edge of the bed. My husband didn't say anything. He hust started brushing my hair. It was so sweet! He loves it too!

I don't think anyone should be telling anyone else when to cut their hair. If it makes you happy, do it.
I was raised in a religious group where the women had to let their hair grow long so long hair on older women is kind of normal to me. One of my sisters had her hair down to her ankles, looked nice but must have been a pain to take care of. Before we left the group my mother's hair was about knee length.

it's not like I live to care about other people's opinions, but yet...some comments make me wonder anyway. yes, my hair is healthy, shiney, thick, and I do love it. my neighbor recently told me I had 'high school' hair, and it made me feel sort of bad. not that I care so much what the world thinks, yet ........maybe I look silly and don't realize it. sure..in a perfect world we could all just say 'do what you want'. but in the real world I'm left to wonder.

Ignore them and wear your hair the way YOU like it. That's what I do. One of the things I like about long hair is that you can put it up in a pony tail, then fix it in a short hair style. When you want it long again, just let it down. I've only cut my hair short twice in my life, and both times I regretted it.
My grandmother had hair down to her butt all her life. She always kept it in an up do so nobody knew it was that long. My aunts have very long hair too, even the ones that are in their 90's have very long hair.
People should mind their own business and stop trying to tell us all to live by their ideals.

Another one that just turned fifty and has very long hair. It's just to the bottom of my bottom. About half grey, half brown, and always in a single braid.
I've had long hair all my life and don't think I will ever cut it. It's just so much easier to deal with. Get up in the morning, braid it, and I'm done for the day.

Mamita, if your hair is healthy, shiny and thick, your neighbor may have been telling you that you have the hair of a much younger woman! Many women have thinning hair as they age, or as it grays could look wiry. I would take it as a compliment if someone said that about me, unless they were saying it with an insulting tone. If it was with an insulting tone, I would assume she was jealous (which again means you have lovely hair).

If YOU love it, that's all that matters.
Perhaps your neighbor's comment was a compliment!

I would love to have long hair but my hair is baby fine and won't hold any kind of hair ornament (pins, barrettes etc). Also, when I do try to wear my hair in a pony tail I have terrible headaches. I have to wear it short and I really don't like short hair. So, I say enjoy your long hair if that is what you like.

I'm 61 and my silver/gold braid reaches my waist. I'm not here to decorate anyone else's world. I love my hair, and so does my dh.

So I guess no one here is going to tell me to get my hair cut then - and I'm a guy! My hair is down to my shoulders - just in the back. I'm 42 and starting to get some gray in it.
I guess I'm still rebelling because as a kid I always wanted to have long hair, but my parents forced me to get it cut. And each summer meant buzz cut time. Once I was on my own, I've let it grow (in the back) and while I may look somewhat like a hippy, I'm really a nice guy!
The funny thing is that now that my parents are dead (no, THAT'S not whats funny!), it's my wife telling me to get my hair cut!!!

I think that long hair old older women doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the stupid over-highlighted "cat lick" hairdos that are so popular on 30-something thru 40-something women right now.
Do what you like!
