Southern Snowstorm

Well, the weathermen said a "possibility" of 1-2" accumulation of snow here in the north Georgia area. Usually they predict snow and we get cold rain. This time they underestimated the intensity by quite a bit. We passed 2" two hours ago and it is still coming down. Here is a pic from an hour ago of the highway in front of the house.

Yeah and it still is. We used to get snows like this several times a year when I lived up in Macon County, Tennessee as a boy but we only get storms like this every few years down here in Georgia. Our snows rarely get more than an inch deep. Here are some more pics from a few minutes ago.

we're waiting on it here in SC too. It's been raining cats and dogs here all day but has finally just stopped... The wind has picked up though and it is cold!

We got about 5 inches last night and were out of power until just a few minutes ago. As usual, though, the roads have thawed and are clear already.

Daddyof4 Where are you? I live north of Rome and we have no snow here. It rained a little this morning, but now it is just cloudy. Very cold and windy though.

I was going to ask the same thing. We live close to Warner Robbins. We had some big flakes falling this morning. But it didn't stick. Then about 2 hours ago it started coming down again, and this time it's sticking. DH has been out playing in it, and I have to confess, I went out and tossed a couple of snowballs myself. LOL

It's hard to believe it's March here in Alabama! We had almost 3" before it stopped, then it cleared up and began melting quickly, and the wind has knocked most of the snow off the trees and bushes. We sledded, skied (we have our own equipment) and built a snowman. My son is still out playing with friends in the woods, but my daughter came home covered with mud, so is now in the basement sipping hot chocolate and watching a DVD. I've talked to both my parents and brother in Newnan and Douglasville, GA, and their snow didn't start until late this mornng.

I live near Statesboro, and we are still waiting for snow. It has been drizzling rain here all day. 911 just gave a winter storm warning across the fire radio for 10pm till 9am tomorrow. The kids don't believe any snow is coming because they thought it was before and it didn't. Stay warm and safe, firegirl

Here in NC we just switched over the sleet five minutes ago. Sounds like sand and the kids were intrigued. We're supposed to get 3-6 inches of snow tonight and I pray it doesn't end up being an ice storm.

About 8am we had snow flurries and nothing else thank goodness. The wind is howling like crazy and we are supposed to be about 25 tonight. Is anyone close to Birmingham. My DIL has to go to B'ham in the am and I am worried about driving conditions.

It's been raining/sleeting here on and off all day. The snow just started in earnest at 5pm. It's coming down hard now. Here's my snow dance:

I AM SO DISGUSTED!!
How can they miss-forcast 8 INCHES of snow!!?????

Not a flake.
Nothing.
Zip.

Oh, they said snow..up to 8 inches. Cold, cold rain and driving gail force winds all day.
East of here there is snow.
South of here there is snow..
but oh noooo.. none for me!
I keep waiting and waiting and waiting.. how are we gonna get 8 inches if it never starts.
Can you tell I am angry?

I'm in Cobb County, GA and it started sleeting about 9:30ish this morning and turned to snow about 10:30. It snowed pretty hard, about 2" or more, in a few hours. Okay, no laughing, that's "snowing hard" in my vocabulary (Louisiana native...). There have only been a couple of real snows in the eight years we have lived in the Atlanta area.

Sitting here in NJ watching them predict 8" - 12" before it is over sometime tomorrow Talking head on NJ News says this one will cost $6 million to clean up; so far they spent $22 million [had budgeted $11million] for snow/ice removal...

I'm mentally sending you some, right now. We've got it coming down like crazy, and they're still talking 3-6 inches. I just hope they are considerate enough to post the school delays and closings before I've been up for an hour tomorrow morning.
