This just sucks

And thank goodness!!

I've been sick and tired of my crummy vacuum cleaner, and today I scored a Kirby with all the attachments, including shampoo feature and a gallon of Kirby shampoo for $50 on CL.

Doing the happy dance...my dust bunnies are trembling in fear

Yeah, if you are having so much fun, you are welcome to come over here and vacuum any time!! Perks: You can keep all the change you find. Negatives: There is enough dog hair around here to make another dog.

That's an awesome deal on a Kirby. Which model is it?

I have a Generation 4, and LOVE it.... (I've had it almost 14 years)

I grew up with Kirby. Had two since married in 1977. I had a feeling I wasn't getting all the bdirt up off the carpet when I bought my new house. I never did get the massive fiber balls from the new carpet. I went and bought a Hoover and brought it home. Vacuumed after using my Kirby. Got huge fiber balls and sand. I had nearly nothing in the Kirby bag. I do miss the attachments and the amount of things I could do with a Kirby. But I like that I know it is as clean as I can get carpet without tearing it out of my house and tiling.

We had a Kirby a few years ago. DH bought it - he is bad about falling for salesmen's lines. Wow, did I ever HATE that thing. They are so heavy, and it was such a pain to use attachments; you had to practically disassemble the thing.

That said, right now I have a vac that broke approximately two months after purchase, and a cheapo Dirt Devil that is adequate but not that great. I need to get the first one fixed, or else just give in and buy a GOOD vacuum. Any recommendations? Besides the Kirby that is!

My MIL has a Dyson and it's very good, but soo expensive, I would have got one of those if I could find one for $50, bu Iknow that's not going to happen

The Kirby igot is a G4 and it seems to work really well. I don't mind that it's heavy, we don't have any stairs

We don't have carpet, so a Shop Vac works well. I have 2: 1 medium sized one that uses a disposable bag and a small one meant for a wall-mount that needs no bag.

I love the small one. It is actually an extremely powerful blower for porch debris. And it weighs next to nothing and is small enough to tote easily. I use the bagless wonder for heavy dirt, car cleaning, and exterior cleaning.

I save the medium one for upholstery, dusting, and lightly soiled floors as that makes the expensive bag last longer (I also cheat and do a "laparoscopy" cleaning of the bag and reuse it).

Cheap and easy, that's my motto.
