Hair Twirlers?

Any one else here a "hair twirler"?

I have been ALL of my life.....60 plus years.

While I watch T.V., or read on the computer, or a book, I sit and twirl a strand of hair.

About the only way I can avoid doing it is to keep my hair cut REALLY short.........but for the last several years my hair has been very LONG making the "twirling" even easier to do.

Now I'm considering going back to the really short hair, and I feel really foolish about feeling apprehensive about loosing my "security blanket"!

What is your "security blanket"?

It never crossed my mind that I might be a hair twirler until I read your post, and I was thinking nope, not me, until I realized that I was in fact twirling the end of my pony tail as I read...now I think about it, I do it all the time!

My son has always been a hair twirler. When he was a baby he would twirl till his finger became stuck and then he'd pull and cry. Hilarious.
I still see him twirl and he's 22.

My DS is a twirler too, but more often when he is very tired. That is how I know he is over for the day.

Yep, I'm a hair nut. The only way I keep myself from hair twirling is to keep my hands busy. Keyboard, writing. While tv watching in the evening I knit. Much more productive!

I am too. I've had long hair all my life and I just love the way it feels as it slides through my fingers. I usually keep my hair in a long braid & a scarf. This keeps my twiddling under control.

I never realized how many "hair twirlers" there are. I've done it all my life 50 some years, I have a brother and sister who do it, and we were just talking about this at work the other day as there are 2 ladies who do it also. How funny!

Yep, total hair twirler addict here too!

Sometimes I play with my hair without even realizing that I'm doing it! DH will ask me to stop because it bugs him I guess, just like his scratching like a dog does me. ha ha

Youngest DD is a hair twirler, when she's stressed or indecisive, the twirl train takes over.

Our middle son is a twirler. Has been since he was very tiny. He always liked to cuddle and would snuggle up in my hair as an infant. Now he twirls his own most of the time, but will twirl mine when he is talking to me or if I am holding him. He doesn't even realize he's doing it most of the time. It is soothing to him. I've also seen students of mine do it, particularly when they are pondering a problem or deep in thought.

My Grandmother was a hair twirler. Once, she decided to try to quit twirling. So she cut up strips of magazine pages and rolled them around pencils. This made them into curls and she would roll them between her fingers. That became a second bad habit. She never did manage to quit twirling her hair!

GS is a hair twirler. To keep him from twirling his sister's hair, they've given him an old wig to use.

Me, too.....I love the way it feels. My fingers always feel hot, so sliding cool hair through them is relaxing.

Mom said I've done it ever since I first got hair as a baby. I'm 38 now.

Me, too! It just feels good. When my hair is long enough, I even tie it in knots and untie it again, but when it's shorter, I just rub it between my fingers or twirl it. I think it's kind of like how some kids like that silky edge on their blankie.

I am guilty as well. Like tallpines, the only way I can keep it under control is to have really short hair. But I have been letting it grow in hopes of the ease of a ponytail this summer. My worst is hair chewing though

I'm a hair raker

I am always running my fingers through my hair and my mom tells me to stop "raking my head"

My hair is soft and shiny, I guess I distribute the hair oils by raking it, lol.

My DD is a twirler and when she was young she chewed it, thankfully she finally left that habit behind.

I'm not a hair twirler, but I'm a hair--what?--petter? I have REALLY short hair--about 1/2 inch long, except right around my face where it's a bit longer. On top it sticks up and feels like the fur on a teddy bear. I rub it all the time, but try not to let people *see* me doing it...

Me too, I rake my hair more than I twirl, but every now and then I twirl.
