U.K. people...mail question...

if you've had something sent to you from the States, how long did it take?? my DD said they waited for a couple weeks for packages sent from family in the UK, so I expected a couple would be normal. but I sent hoggie a package mailed on Nov. 10, so should I assume it's lost at this point? I sent regular first class due to shipping cost, but I'd still think it wouldn't take this long. I could put a trace on it, but it wasn't valuable and prior dealings with the post office told me nothing comes of it anyway. I just wondered if someone knew...or waited this long. thanks.

hoggie...if you read this, I hope it's not lost. it's not like it was something of value, but pokey mail still makes me a bit angry. ((hugs))

I sent an ornament there last year for the exchange and it took nearly a month to arrive. I thought they'd never get it!

I've sent things to the UK that have taken over a month to arrive -- and at the same time I've sent stuff to major centres there that have only taken a few days (less than a week from major Cdn city to major British city addresses).

Things to the States have at times taken several weeks -- both to get there from here, and vice versa.

Don't panic yet. I understand that Hoggie is off in an island community, so it may take a little longer, too.

I'm still waiting on books sent to me from the US. They were mailed in early Oct. The company I ordered from said mail to the EU (including the UK) has slowed way down the past few months - no one knows why. In the past it has only taken 2-3 weeks to get things from them. We are waiting till 12 weeks before we request a "re-ship" and assume package one is lost (#2 just got mailed, missed it by 12 hours or they could have sent it to a US address for me). Luckily, I'll be visiting in the US during that time, so they will "re-mail" it to us in the US, saving them loads of shipping fees if need be.

So hang in there, it's not on the "outside" of the delivery window, yet.

Hi guys

Mamita, WIHH, Rose - I wouldn't start panicking just yet. Our local mail is a bit of a law unto itself I am afraid. It has been known for me to send a letter to the next island along (should be next day delivery) and it take over a week to arrive On the other hand I have had parcels arrive from Canada (I look after a friend's small business and he imports stuff from Canada) in just about a week. And I have mail that comes in from Belgium in a couple of days. I am not sure if it is our local Post Office that holds stuff up, or the next one down the chain. But I think it is close to home that the problems occur - someone needs a daily injection of caffeine I think

But having said that, I haven't been into the Post Office since the beginning of the week, so it is possible that I have mail waiting for me. I will go in tomorrow and see what hails. If there is anything there I will let you know asap

I've got two friends in the UK - Hull and Wales...and we allow a full month for cards, and two months for boxes.

I make sure to put U.K. ENGLAND on the shipping label, and some folks in the US Postal service need extra help.

OK - just a quicky - I have collected three parcels from the Post Office. I can't open them now as I don't have long before I am due to collect DD so I haven't time to open them AND hide them LOL.

I will open them up tonight after DD is in bed and pm you all then.

But just wanted to let you all know as soon as possible that they had all arrived

First, Hoggie, glad you got your packages.
Second, Mamita and Rose, hope everything works/worked out well.
I have a sister in Germany and it takes weeks for packages from my other DS in Pgh., PA to get to her, too.
