While I think whaling is not a good thing, I respect their right to do so as they are within the "law" . I watched the episode last night, and had little respect for the folks who tried to disrupt the whalers. They threw smelly substances and chemicals that would cause the deck to be too slippery to work on the bow of the ship. They also illegally boarded the ship as it was under power (two protesters did). Then the protesters were "outraged" that the two were not prevented from leaving and they radioed news organizations throughout the world telling how their crew were kidnapped, yada yada yada. Did you notice how the captain of the Sea Shepherd wanted two volunteers to board the whaling vessel? Didn't see him volunteering to go. That kind of stupidity could have lead to drowning, crushed bones, cuts, severed limbs, hypothermia, etc. If they want to stop whaling, then they should look to pursue their agenda through legitimate means. I agree...I found myself more sympathetic with the Japanese whalers than the impressionable, naive, vegetarian, unrealistic, urban kids who are feeling desperate to embrace a cause, impress someone, anyone, have an adventure, or can't find real work, so this will have to do for now.

I consider their executive director (the blonde female) to be a good friend so I guess you know which side of the deck I'm on.

If I were the whalers I'd request an escort from a Japanese naval vessel for protection. IIRC, the laws of the sea allow a war ship to fire up on any vessel which is attacking a ship of its nation.
Just think how loudly the supporters of this would howl if these tactics were being used against an abortion center.

I would have thrown the two people back. What does happen if one of these people slip and kills themselves? They cannot blame the Japanese even though they would. Just because you have a letter saying your not a pirate that does not give you the right to trespass.

Where is the French DGSE when you need them?
Were I a millionaire I'd equip my own personal vessel with the tools necessary to sink that ship of terrorists. I'm sure the Japanese or the Norwegians or Russians or whoever would look the other direction while I procured a few anti-ship missiles and torpedoes from their "deniable" stocks. I'd loving nothing better to catch those worthless <expletive redacted> harassing a ship and send a couple of anti-ship missiles into their hull. On general principle I'd motor up to the burning sinking hulk and machine gun the survivors. Machine gunning that smarmy turd of a "Captain" would be particularly rewarding. On second though it'd be better to fish the lot of them out of the water and hang them. A bunch of dirty hippies hanging from the yardarm as I pulled into port would make for some great footage on CNN.
If the Japanese would grow a set, they'd send one of their destroyers out with their fishing vessels and promptly sink the Whackjob Whiner or whatever greenpeace calls their ship these days. Oh to see the Kongo tearing up the bridge and superstructure of that ship with 127mm and sending a couple of type 68s into their hull. That would be freakin sweet. That or just let their fishermen mount a couple of automatic cannons on the deck. Even a couple of 50 cals would be probably be sufficient to put that terrorist vessel on the bottom.
Oh and leave it to the channel of animal worshiping nutjobs, animal planet, to glorify these miserable wastes of skin. what's next? Bring along camera crews while the ALF firebombs researchers homes or the ELF burns down houses and torches car dealerships?

These people are tools, while I do respect thier passion for the animals. There are better ways to go about such things. And really if those folks fishing are within the laws what right is it of the anti's to try and stop them?

My thoughts exactly. While I don't like whaling and I think it should be outlawed, except for the Alaskan natives (or other native extreme northerners that rely on that), the 'activists' are breaking the law. Period.

Agreed. However, I certainly wouldn't form any opinions based on a television show. The politics behind the whaling laws, the flouting of those laws, and the desperate attempts to get the laws changed is horrifying. It's a truly shameful situation.

Didn't watch the show, but I don't agree with whaling. If whales lived year round in the waters of a country, that would be different, but they don't, so they belong to everyone.
Hands off! If some people get rough with some individual companies to make it unprofitable for them to hunt whales, good for them.
Hunting a world wide resource to instinction by a few countries/companies for profit is wrong.
