Interesting trend regarding origins of food products

The Country of Origin law went into effect on Sep 30, 2008. But it only applies to certain unprocessed foods.

However, I've noticed that more and more food packages are putting on the label that they're manufactured in the US.

Of course most foods still either don't say, or say something like "distributed by". And we can't know where all the ingredients came from before the product was manufactured.

There's been enough in the media about foods and food ingredients being imported, that people are actually beginning to read labels, and I do know from reading blogs and forums, and some news articles, that people are emailing and calling food companies to ask where the products are made, and asking if they have Chinese ingredients in them.

I'm guessing that companies are responding to consumer demand and that's why they are beginning to label their US-made products.

I bought Whitehouse apple cider that proudly displays the American Flag on their website and brag about being an American company. They don't tell you their apple concentrate is a product of China. Whether the apples are grown there or not, I don't know. I'm not willing to take the chance that China hasn't added melamine, or whatever, to the juice.

When I realized the concentrate came from China the last two half gallons of it ended up being dumped. I felt bad for contaminating American soil with who knows what but I will not ingest any food that has anything that comes from China. That country is toxic, to say the least, and I believe life means so little to them that they don't care who they make ill or kill.

I'm glad that US food suppliers are labeling their food as a product of America.

Until it closed down several years ago, there was a factory in the area here that "bottled" Minute Maid juices. I guess you would call them a bottler. They put the juice in both shelf stable and refridgerated containers. I actually was inside there a couple of times. The place was HOT and LOUD. But it was sooo fascinating watching the lines running. It all moved so incredibly fast, with thousands of filled containers rushing down conveyor things everywhere.

Well, anyhow, I digress. They had hundreds of 55 gallon plastic drums stacked up out back all the time. They sold them for $5 each. I went there several times to buy drums. That's why I ended up inside a couple times. I'd knock on the back door, and step inside while whoever answered went looking for the boss.

Ok, to get to the point of this post. The labels on the drums showed that they had contained fruit juice concentrates from CHINA.

I wonder if Minute Maid containers indicate that? I never remember to check when I'm in the store.
