Call Me Lazy...but

You can call me lazy but I love staying home not working away from the homestead. I'm sure everyone here feels that way too. Been off of work for a couple of months due to health reasons and now it is so very hard to think of going back to work. Since I work a "per diem" job in nursing..work when I want to with no benefits, I have always worked when I wanted to with no holidays etc. The job is getting harder as I get older, a lot of lifting etc. But now...I've turned lazy !! We manage just fine on my husbands SS and a little extra but have to get myself moving. Guess I should be grateful that I can work and not unable to work. Do you get lazier as your get older ?? Someone give me a kick in the pants !!

well..hon..count me in on 'lazy', too! I worked for my entire life. while we raised children...hectic...work, kids, activities, household chores......CRASHED. so..no kick in the pants from here. I welcomed my 'lazy' life (which except for Fridays...I barely have a moment to spare!) so...ask yourself...IS THIS EXTRA INCOME WORTH IT??? if it is..go with happiness in your heart. if not.........stay home. and enjoy every little moment we get in life. I'm certainly NOT lazy...I'm just someone now more interested in taking care of us.........and not a bit sorry for it! home...loving EVERY second. I don't care if we can't spend big bucks on 'stuff' like we used to. that isn't even worth thinking about. ((hugs))

That's not being lazy, that's being choosy, which is a good thing!

get your independent nurse provider number and foster a medically fragile infant at home. Pays GREAT, light lifting only, and they don't talk your ear off or make you watch jerry springer or spanish programming.

I loved being home full time when the kids were little. I'd love to retire now. However, in light of the uncertain economy I'm very thankful I have a job and I've put full time retirement on hold to see what shakes out over the next year. I don't think its lazy to love being a full time homemaker. I love being free to participate in community and church activities which I cannot do while working full time.

As long as your spouse is on board with it, enjoy!
I was put out of work over 2 years ago by a severely broken knee. I eventually lost my job since I didn't recover well enough or fast enough. Then I went back to school to get re-training, and have been job hunting since about June. During my lay-up, my husband was forced to retire, so we have been living off SS, a very small pension, and our savings. I enjoyed being home once I was well enough to do something, but the economic reality is we need more money coming in. The job market is very tough right now. I finally found some part-time work, which is at least getting me back into the job force. So, I have been where you are, and if you can afford to stay home, I envy you, and wish you much enjoyment!

That's not lazy...it's called "not having a boss!" You can still work as hard at home as you ever did "at work", if not harder, but oh my gosh, what a huge boost in the quality of your life when you don't have some jerk of a boss to answer to, and someone making you do things according to someone else's schedule!

I also stay home now after years of working, but I certainly don't consider myself lazy. My job now is the be CEO of my household by keeping everything running smoothly. DH brings in the money and I manage it as well, so I guess I can also be called a CFO. If I was working, I'd be spending money. By staying home and managing the household, I am saving money.

Enjoy your "new" job(s).

The majority of the time, the worst part of my day is when my car pulls out of my driveway to go put money in someone else's pocket first while putting some in mine. The best part of my day is when my car pulls into my driveway and I know that all the work I do for the rest of the day will be without someone else's yoke on my shoulders.

Lazy? Not a bit.

I retired 2 years ago after 41 years in the work force. During that 41 years we raised 3 children; had a garden, always had chickens and some years had other livestock.
DH always cut out fire wood and we canned or froze most of the vegetables we used. I dont look at it as being lazy - just a well deserved rest. Somehow I do seem to stay busy anyway but just at a more lesiurely pace. Our income is reduced but we manage
just fine. It's nice to have time to sit and watch a movie together or have a cup of coffee and talk.

I hardly think that's lazy! I haven't worked outside my home for ten years now but when you add it all up, I've worked harder than I might have had I kept up with my outside career. Three kids, a homestead, sheesh!
I think the only difference is that the stress level is far lower at home, even with all the problems. That's probably what your mind wants to avoid - stress not work. We have a natural aversion to that!

I've been partially laid off from work since July and I'm loving it! Wouldn't be able to afford to stay home if it weren't for working part-time and unemployment but my goal is to be able to. I'm not looking foward to going back full-time in January, thats for sure!

Quit while you are ahead!

Or..........Scale down your hours or stress of position, if you can't stand stop.

You can work enough to keep up your certification. Work for an agency at outrageous pay.

Consider the suggestion of "onthespot" to get your independent nurse provider number.

Good luck, and glad you have been enjoying the unplanned leave!

You're not lazy, you're smart. My husband and I worked 24/7, him as an ENT surgeon, me as bookkeeper/office manager, until eight years ago when both of us were diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and had surgery. It was so tough at first, as we wondered what we were going to do with the rest of our lives. DH became fully disabled in December 1999 and our income dropped to zip. Now we're doing the things we always dreamed about. We have chickens, milk goats, have a small garden and can everything in sight. We also have a small business from home which supplements SSD. We do a lot of reading and have time for our family. He has a small shop and I sew during the winters. We certainly wished we'd have slowed down twenty years ago and perhaps not ruined our backs working so hard... All the income in the world isn't worth ruining your health.
