Bluegrass Music

Every year my family has a huge party inviting family, friends, & customers from the sawmill business. We usually have a crowd of around 250. We get a bluegrass band to play each time. This year we were fortunate to have Cornfields & Crossroads play. They were awesome!! Their fiddle player is in the military & was called away for the weekend so they had Kenny Stone sit in with them. If you have never heard him, you need too. He was better than awesome!! I have the whole thing on DVD & have played it constantly since Saturday night. My family was very blessed to have such a talented group of musicians play. Kenny has won many fiddle contests & teaches besides judging many events & also playing. When he played Orange Bloosom Special the crowd went wild. I wish I knew how to download a clip of it somewhere so you could hear it. We are already planning next year's party!

This brings a question. Is there any way to cut down the background noise on my DVD?? You kow, the people standing around talking. I was hoping I could somehow tone that down so the band would be heard better. It's not bad, but could be better. If anyone can help me with that please let me know. This is a Christmas gift for my dad.

There is a free program called 'audacity' that you can download and edit sound files. You can get it here:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

You have to play around with the sound clips a while to figure out which effect will reduce some of the extra sounds. Usually I just use it to reduce the peaks, and take out the 'before' and 'after' sounds from my audio.

Since you have a DVD, is it on video? I'm not sure the audacity would work with that, and you might need a program that works with video.

Sounds like you all had a great time!

How cool that you have a bluegrass band at your fingertips! Our church has a fantastic (wins everything in state of GA) banjo player. He started a bluegrass ministry at our church called "BlueGrace" because our church is Grace Community. It's funny, because coming to our church, no one is really country- we're the epitomy of suburban, actually. But when I start fiddlin and the band starts playing I'll Fly Away, this church turns into a screamin and stompin crew of rednecks. I LOVE it. What a great gift to give your father this Christmas!
