Melamine-Tainted Candy Found In U.S.

Watch your sweet tooth folks

http://www.ksat.com/health/17605812/detail.html

****So far, the chemical melamine has been found in candy being sold in California and four Connecticut stores, and Oregon officials said it may be there as well.

Food and Drug Administration said the candy is imported from China and distributed to stores in eight states, including Oregon.

The vanilla-flavored candy is available in most U.S. Chinatowns....****

I was wondering why melamine is ending up in these products, first, dog food; now milk products.

Apparently it fools nutrition test to show that there is more protein in the product than there really is.

Quote:
Allegedly, someone in the supply change, milk supplier or manufacturer, is adding melamine to the milk formula to artificially inflate the reading for protein levels. Formula milk was not until now tested for melamine, because regulators either did not suspect this ingredient might be added.
Folks who like chemical formulas, etc. can get more info here: http://www.sciencebase.com/science-b...e-in-milk.html

I just found out why, too. I kept wondering why anyone would go to the bother of bashing dishes, grinding them to dust and putting them into food.
