closing inside doors in your home

I dont know why this question came into my head this morning. Do you leave your inside doors open or closed ie: bathrooms, bedrooms ect. Lately I find myself closing doors as I exit rooms, this is a new habit for me and I dont know why I started doing it.

I would love to have an "open" style floorplan with very few doors, but it is not feasible with heating/cooling issues.
In the summer we cool only one small part of the house and leave the rest broiling hot!
In the winter we heat only a small part of the house and leave the rest freezing cold!
Only for a brief time twice a year can my house be open all the way! Aaaah bliss!

To get from here to the bathroom I have to go through 3 doors.. actually 4, but we leave the office door open in the summer. The kitchen is closed off on three sides etc...
You can tell who is going where by the thunks, bumps, clicks and slams of the doors as they make their way through the house.

Depends on whether my little darling is here or not. When Nina is here she goes through the house and closes every door. If I leave a room and leave the door open, she will stop what she is doing and go close the door. Her house will not have any open doors. I prefer them open, though. I can tell her not to close the door and she will anyway, as if she didn't hear me. Yes we have had her hearing checked.

open!!

I am claustrophic, I guess. I love all doors open and no blinds pulled. I love the light and sunshine flowing everywhere.

Depends on the time of year and heating/cooling requirements. In the Summer we keep the doors open if the AC is not on but close doors when it is (we have 1 window unit). This lets the AC go to the necessary rooms. In the winter we keep them closed due to having individual thermostats for baseboard heat in every room. We keep the temp up in the rooms we are in. It might not be practical but it does save on energy costs.

Both. Downstairs there are only two doors - laundry and bath. I keep the laundry room door closed so the cats won't sleep on stacks of clean clothes. I keep the bathroom door open 'cause that's where the litter box is located.

Upstairs we keep all the guest bedrooms, guest bathroom and my sewing room doors closed. Our bedroom door is always open as is our bathroom door.

We keep all doors opened except the laundry room. DH and I were actually talking about this just a couple days ago because one of our neighbors leaves their laundry room door opened and the heat from the drier makes the house hotter. We live in Hawaii and don't believe in AC... it's too expensive to run and none of us have health issues that would require it.

All depends on whether I want to keep the cats out or not. I prefer to keep doors open, but don't care for cat hair in the sewing room.

Seems like when ever I close a door for some reason, I end up locking a cat in the room. They don't seem to appreciate that. . .

All doors are open except the door to the basement, closet doors and the door to the guest room (so I can keep it cat hair free for when my sister visits...she's a little allergic)

Both! We have carpet in only the guest bedroom so that door stays closed to keep the dogs out. Then I close or open the other doors to either direct (solar) heat where I want it.. Some rooms seem to warm up quicker and stay warmer longer than others.. Then I keep the basement door open with a fan going to blow up the much cooler air in the summer and the much warmer air in winter.. QB

We have 6 kittens in the house. Every door stays shut to protect the contents within.

We've been remodeling for way too long now. The only door in the house is to the bathroom. The rest are in the shop waiting to be painted!

During the day and if we're home, the inside doors are open. But if we're not here, the inside doors are closed. We only open the outside doors and windows up if there's a good breeze blowing. We have central air.

We only have three doors; two bedroom doors and a bathroom door. Unless someone is in a room, the doors generally remain open. All three of these doors open to the same part of the hallway, and when the doors are closed it's way too dark for my liking.

The only door we have is on the bathroom. If its open, its vacant. If its closed, its in use.

If the kids want privacy, they can get a job, and move out. They each have a closet they can step into to change cloths.

Our downstairs is mostly open concept. We close doors down there only when privacy is needed in bath or bedroom.

Upstairs same thing, except when kids come over, sometimes door at stairs gets closed to keep noise levels down if were listening to music or watching a program downstairs.

We like open and light also, except we draw shades (in hotter weather) on the side of the house where the sun is at it's hottest.
