Recovery

I spent a lot of time Saturday prepping ingredients for a crock pot recipe for Loaded baked potato soup (first I had to peel and dice lots of potatoes and an onion and fry bacon). It turned out too rich for the kids' taste. So I let it sit in the fridge until Monday and used it as the sauce for Shepherd's pie. I just browned some hamburger with onion, poured in a bag of defrosted mixed veggies, added some of the soup and stirred. Then I topped it with mashed potatoes and put the lid on the Dutch oven for about 20 minutes and it was a huge hit.

Once I made fudge that only came to the consisitency of melting rubber. But after refridgeration, it made a super topping for brownie sundaes. We can't afford to waste anything, so I always have to keep trying to succeed.
The kids don't seem to have caught on to my failures-turned-successes ...yet.

the one thing I learned from being a mom........don't tell the kids. don't tell them what's in a dish...don't tell them if you've tried using it in something else...don't tell them anything. lol my dd loved tuna noodle cassarole...til one day she saw me making it with cream of mushroom soup. (which she insisted she hated, yet never really ate as soup) from that day on....she'd never eat it. taught me to NEVER disclose any ingredient.

but...back to your dinner...sounds WONDERFUL!! YUM!

My dh always told me he didn't like tuna casserole. The rest of us did so I made it one time and told him it was chicken he fell for it and ate two servings. I did tell him after he ate the second serving. He then stated he knew all along. Did I believe that?? No Way!! He still claims he doesn't like it but he eats it. He doesn't like leftover so I have to use it in a different way and what he doesn't know won't hurt him. We can't afford to waste anything right now. I also don't like to be cooking with him watching as he will question everything that goes into the meal. Like I said what he doesn't know won't hurt him.
