Whats your Favorite Old Saying?

Heres mine, "YOU CAN BELIEVE IT, OR YOU CAN LEAVE IT ALONE" it was only said by older folks. The meaning was what ever they said was the truth wether you believed it or not and you better treat it as truth even if you didn't believe it or one day you'll pay the price.

One that has been proven true to me time and time again is:

'What goes around comes around.' Meaning, whatever you put out, good or bad, you get back eventually.

Then there's Murphy's Law ('If it can go wrong, it will.') and its many variations, such as 'There are 2 kinds of dust; the light kind which lands on dark furniture; and the dark kind which lands on light furniture'.

I don't know how old it is, but my favorite is "Like it or lump it." It pretty much means, "It doesn't matter, you are going to mind anyway." I used it a lot when my son was younger. Now I use it at work nearly everyday I am there.

The situation (what ever it is) is like a pile of dog crap, just leave it alone because the more you stir it, the worse its going to stink.

I heard that one a lot because I'm not really the type to leave things alone.

One good turn, deserves another.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

To forget is kind, to forgive is divine.

"necessity is the mother of invention"- meaning that if something happens, and you have to do something with it, you will come up with a way to do it-

That, and "where there's a will, there's a way"- sort of self-explanatory, I think!

....it will take a "month of Sundays" = a long time.

"Slower than molasses in January" - I doubt young people would even have an idea what molasses is!

Sage advice from my Grandmother: Watch your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.

Sage advice from my Mother: If you do something wrong (even if I can't see you) you WILL get caught (and I always did!).

"That ain't worth a hill of beans."

"Don't make a mountain out of a molehill."

Hmmm...my mama had lots of sayings about hills!

One that I think I invented; I've used it a lot with my coworkers in team training:

"You can see yourself in others. You either like what you're looking at or you don't."

Many Hands Make Light Work

Rise Above It

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff (not very old, but good)

The nut doesn't fall far from the tree

His elevator doesn't quite go to the top floor

You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar

Beauty is, as beauty does

His life is "a tough row to hoe"

He's a "hard nut to crack"

The hurrier I go, the behinder I get

Waste not, want not

The Lord helps those who help themselves

A penny saved is a penny earned

Watch your P's & Q's (be careful)

The early bird catches the worm

Never cry "Wolf"

Don't get yourself into hot water

A friend in need is a friend indeed

Make hay while the sun shines

??? (how does that go???)....makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise

Oh yea..."Early to bed and early to rise...makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."
