That's simply not true.

Maybe it's illegal where you are or where the story originated... but it's not true.

Stores are not obligated to accept credit for payment, and they are allowed to charge more for their expenses and administration.

The only KEY to this is that the pump price has to be the credit price and the "cash" price is a discount from that.

In other words, they can't have the cash price listed on the pump (unless you prepay the price then it can change to the cash price).

It's just a fact in the trucking industry that if you use credit you pay more... and it's legal.

No shots here.

Just saying that by creatively using the word DISCOUNT for cash it eliminates any law that says you can't CHARGE more for credit.

I think I shall just retire for the day...

Maverick stores in Montana and Wyoming has 1 listed price and offer a discount for cash. They've been doing it as long as I've been driving.

Perfectly legal in my state, and I would bet, most others.

As long as the higher price is the one posted, you're fine.

Here in Calif you cannot charge more when using credit, but you can give a dscount for cash. The reporter needs to learn her facts.

ARRRGH! This is one of my pet peeves people just see what they want not whats really there.
THE REPORTER WAS RIGHT It is a federal law that you cant charge more for credit card purchases. It has to be the same across the board.
Seedspreader and others are right you can give a Disciount for cash.
So whats the argument?
