Do You REALLY Care What People Think Of You Online?
I was reading the thread about how someone doesn't like someone who seems to post lies (rich, poor, etc).
Anyhow, I got to thinking:
How much do you care what people online think of you?
Personally, I'm the same guy online or offline. What ya see is what ya get. I like to be liked, but if ya don't like me, I ain't gonna put on ruffled panties so ya will.
I never expected EVERYBODY to see my personal greatness and I'm OK with those who don't.

I don't like to offend people, but I know everyone isn't going to agree with me.
I don't own any ruffled panties either....

I do care. I would not want people to think I was a liar or a bad person. I guess when I come on the homesteading site and see the family board listed there and underneath it says "Melissa's forum" it is important to me that the board is a place of respect, dignity, fairness, kindness, and helpfulness. When it's your name on the line, it is hard not to care.

I do care about what people think. I conduct myself online the same way I conduct myself in real life. Words, once spoken (or written), cannot be taken back so it is extremely important that they be chosen carefully.

I'm yet another who is the same online as in real life. And yes, I do care what others think. Not so much that I let their opinions rule me, rather that I don't want to come across as hurtful or abrasive. There is very little in this world that can't be said nicely.
I also try very hard to be true to my opinions without running over top of someone else's...

Boleyz - I am who I am. I do not try to offend anyone and I conduct myself in a way that is socially acceptable (I hope). I enjoy people and am an avid "people watcher" - I've never met anyone that I didn't think that there is good in them. I would like it if people could see me as someone they could get to know - even with my old person's opinionated demeanor. Been there and done waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much of "that" to keep my mouth shut.

Well, I reckon that if it was real important to me that I wouldn't have posted about 75 percent of the posts I have. LOL
Nope, I am a "take me or leave me kind of gal". Certainly not going to win any popularity contests but you pretty much always know where I stand. I'm consistent, if not lovable.

Same here. I try to be nice and considerate because my folks raised me to believe that is the way to be, but ultimately I cannot control what people think of me so I don't worry about it. There will always be someone who thinks I'm a jerk regardless how nice I think I'm being, and I figure life is too short to fret about stuff like that.

I have made many very good friends online, met quite a few of them in the "meat world" too.
So yes I do care what others think of me online.
I also try to be myself at all times, though I must admit my typed words come accross differently sometimes than my spoken words.
Body language, and expressions are part of communications.
That all too often gets lost in the wording.

I feel about the way you feel..I want to be liked but if you dont like me move on and leave me alone, it wont ruin my day by no means.

I admit, I do care - both online and offline. I don't see the point in posting here, beyond maybe asking for help on a practical matter now and then (gardening, animal care, etc.) if I'm not going to make positive social connections.
I *think* I am the same person in both places, though it's hard to say. Typing posts and replies is not the same as interacting in person. The way you see someone online is through the filter of his or her own perception, if that makes any sense. I try to be "real" - maybe sometimes a little too real. 
On the other hand, both on and offline, I am trying NOT to care so much that it affects who I really am inside. I'm not going to change who I am just so somebody will like me. But I think some here do like me...don't they? With some notable exceptions. Oh well, can't please 'em all.
BTW I think it's really funny how people here try so hard to identify specific people in certain threads, without actually naming names...it's a fun little snarky game to play, isn't it?

I suppose that since I've met and hosted quite a few folks from HT at my house before, I would like them to like me.
Sometimes I can be a jerk, just like everyone else can, but I am that way in real life too. I try not to be purposely jerky, but some folks will see you that way no matter what. Sometimes with cause, sometimes without.
I worry more about what my family and my God thinks of me... and I fall short too many times.
I try to remember that the majority of people here are like me and come here for common ground and fellowship with other homesteaders. Some folks are "characters" in my mind (I've posted about that before) but many just want to be part of a community. Some of the folks I disagree with the most are ones I would like to meet in real life... and I hope in the next year to meet a lot more from the area at some local events.

I could care less about what people think of me and that goes double for on-line. The day I start worrying about who may not like me on the internet is the day I sign myself into the loony bin.I rate what other people think about me on the internet at the same level of what I think about a bug smashing into my windshield. I may see it, but I could care less about it.
I mean seriously, Why would I even care? Why would anybody care? What you mean someone doesn't like me!? *Gasp* I'm simply crushed. Line for the fan club forms at the right please no pushing or shoving. You'll have lots of company to discuss your mutual hate of Quint with. Perhaps you can all get together and collaborate on a good death threat.
It's like death threats or people threatening to beat you up on the internet. Does anyone seriously give that a second thought. Sheesh if I worried about everyone who threatened to kill me or beat me up I'd be hiding under the bed right now.

As has been said repeatedly here, "What you see (read) is what you get".
We all have our own opinions and it would be unrealistic to think everyone or even some people will agree with you (me). But I would tell you the same things face to face as I say here.
I tend to stay away from General Chat since that is the area I can get into trouble.

No I don't. I must answer to to God for all that I do and all that I am. I try to be nice but I do believe in standing up for what I believe in theres too many in this world that try to please both!

I am the same on here or in person. I am plain and simple,, I will treat you with respect, until you show me you dont deserve it. I will believe you until I can prove you have lied to me. I will treat you the same way I expect to be treated until you prove to me,you dont deserve it.
Honesty is the best policies even when its it hard, the old saying what goes around comes around,, it does,, evendutally(?).. I dont judge any one,, Thats left to a higher power.
If you dont like me then thats your choice.. I will continue to like you until you show me I shouldnt
