Today I was at the local LARGE DIY store. First really nice day here, so there were a gazillion people out and about. Only 8 or 9 checkout lines were open, so there were probably 4 people in each line.

big deal, right?
The lady who was in front of me put all her stuff from her cart on the checkout counter...electrical boxes, wiring, sockets, some other stuff. The man who was finishing checking out was swiping his credit card and waiting for it to authorize. gonna take maybe 30 seconds before the checkout girl starts doing the lady's bunch of stuff.
The checkout line next to us...actually about 10 feet over....opens up and the girl yells out "I can help someone on checkout 9". Couple of people from other lines head over...but this lady in front of me..the one who already has her stuff out and on the counter....grabs a handful of her items and RACES over to the new lane, plops the handful of stuff on the counter, and slowly walks back to my lane to get more stuff. It takes her three trips...carries everything by hand...to finally get it all over to the new lane. during this time she's holding up the new lane, holding up MY lane while she empties the counter, and just generally being an...um...donkey. All because she didn't want to wait in line for the guy ahead of her to finish swiping his card.
By the time she gets checked out, I'm thru my lane (which was her lane) and out the door.
just gotta be first, I guess. gotta hurry up and get ahead. <sigh>
Life's just too short and too beautiful for that kind of thinking. In my happy little opinion, anyway
