I need a website!
Ok.. all of you enterprising homesteaders with websites...a little help please.
I either need a website or a blog or both. I have begun joining with other farmers into groups and need to be able to link myself to the main webpages..
How did you do it? And what are the best and free-est webpage homes..?
Thank you.

I use Freewebs, it's pretty uncomplicated and they host well. I've never lost my website or had my pages disappear.

If you want a blog, Blogster is pretty simple and the layout is efficent. I have a blog there also and like it.

Here is some quick and easy HTML lessons online.

Hope this helps!

I don't understand what you mean by this.....
Are you looking for a page to gather usefull links in one place?....a simple page
Or a place where only you post topics, and others comment?....a blog
Or a place for open discussion?....a forum
All of the above?
That would help to narrow down the choices.
Freewebs (for pages) and blogger.com (for blogs) are excellent choices, if you want to go that route.

chickenista ~ I personally don't have a website or blog, but the blogger.com host site thingie, at least for me, is very easy to navigate and read. Dana's site is there, and it seems that a lot of folks have blogs on there as well. Please let us know when you are up and running!

Thanks. I need a farm website that showcases what I will have to offer and to link to some of the farm groups I am becoming a part of so that restaurants and other customer can find me.
I was thinking of a blog as well..but might just do that as a part of the website to catalog the progress of our farm.
It won't be today..and it won't be tomorrow, but some day soon. Spring is not the time to build a website but I can check out everybody else's and see how it is done.

Easiest option is to head over to GoDaddy.com, register a domain, and buy a web hosting package. They will try to up-sell various products to you, but just keep saying "no thanks" - if in the future you need the other stuff, you can always add it later. You might find a cheaper web host, but GoDaddy's interface is very user-friendly. I use it for all of my sites.
You don't need special software to build a website. MS Front Page is great, but if you don't have it, you can just do it in MS Word.
I'd steer away from any online web builder interface - in my experience they're painfully slow and unpredictable.

My website is hosted by homestead.com
They have lots of formats and it's really easy to use. For $5 a month I get my site hosted with no pop-up ads and I can receive paypal payments. I've just started mine not to long ago, its www.ArrowsFlightFarm.com I also like that it is a .com and not a huge long name. They also have free accounts.
For a blog I took Txcloverangels advice and used blogger. It's great! That one is http://brazilianbunny.blogspot.com/ I may do another and link it to my website.

Godaddy.com has "website tonight" which is an online website building package. You can get your domain name, your hosting, and be able to make your page and have it up and running in a short time.

The one downfall to GoDaddy is that if you do want the extras, they will nickel and dime you to death. And it really adds up.

I'd be glad to help you out.

An option for folks wanting to sell home made things from home is etsy.com.
I don't know that it would be as flexbile as you need, Chickenista, but for some others that only need an online store, it's worth looking at.

I also use freewebs and am practically computer stupid. So they are obviously easy to use. They have a function that I really like which is a monitoring service that is free. It lets you see where your traffic is coming from how long they were there and what they did while they were there. Everything but who they are. Plus they can help you register with google and other search engines. Best of all it's free.
You can check mine out, I don't know if it's a good example but it's there.
