How do you protect your kitchen table? Table cloth-----place mats---or what?

I use table cloths. I love pretty table cloths. I have them in deep, rich colors, like plain hunter green, or burgundy, and I them in a rich plaid too. I also have a couple of cream colored ones.

marine vinyl , the stuff the make boat seats and apolstry out of the fabric store sells it depending on what you get it may slide on the table but some of the drawr linter ruber mat underneith helps keep in place or a large heavy trivet in the center of the table. if we are having company we put down a table cloth over but usualy not the kids spill to much.

my next table i will build and it will be tiled in the middle with a wooden edge about 6 inches and varnished

most furniture avaialable in stores is not made to last

Sofa and chair in front of TV. My little place is not big enough for a table.

We have an old pine farmhouse table that I bought second hand, so it was already pretty scarred up. I generally don't put anything on it except trivits under the hot dishes. I wipe it down with a spray of Murphey's after dinner and wax it with Howard Feed-n-Wax once a week. I like the broken in look. It's had thousands of family dinners eaten on it, and homework assignments done on it, and board games played on it!

For 20yrs, I had the most adorable, very long, old pine table. It had nicks, dents, dark spots etc and I didn't use any covers on it, except mats for hot dishes..I didn't worry about it, Then I decided I wanted a new table--something that had leaves...so I could make it smaller--99% of the time it's just dh and I, for meals...So, I gave it to my dd, purchased a new fancy, expensive table. It's the perfect size, has the perfect stain, the perfect name brand ---and I hate it! I am always worried about the glasses leaving rings, the plates being to hot, the kids writing on it...I wish I could trade it to my dd, but she has three little ones and loves the size, shape, color and easy of care...
