where are the boys

Yesterday I spend 3 hours in the hospital for certain test. And all the staff were ladies, i don't have a problem with it. But where are the boys? my doctor was a lady, all the nurses were female, all the CTScan and all the tech support were ladies. Finally the neurologist came to look to my Ctscan and he was an older man. Is not amazing? I saw about 20 medical professionals. and I had only one men??? where are the young guys One of my friends is a Teacher in Pennstate University, and he told me all the boys are going for Associates degree they want to get out of school fast, and long careers are obtained mainly by female students, the boys are too busy having fun. Also they are going for Technological degrees, instead than old careers, still engineer careers all full of our boys. But generally are not going for complicated and long careers. What is your opinion about it. Also I am basing this comment in my experience in my area only...

i know several men who do RN and others things. the hostility still remains for men who are doing "womens" work

also i know three who quit nursing in hospitals and nursing homes because all the heaviest chores were lumped on them. All the heavy lifting etc. They all said that they spent the majority of their day doing nothing but the heaviest lifting etc while women making the same money and with the same job titel stood around. If the women did it before the guys come along they should be able to do it after was the sentiment I heard. A couple said they would be pulled from their patients and sent all the way across the floor or to another floor to move another female RNS patient etc.

So they either went into home health or went to a new career

DH is a RN as well, he was one of 3 on the floor. When manager positions come up each one has been promoted so now 1/3 of the managers are male and no male nurses on the floor.

I think the glamor of wiping butts for a living does not seem to appeal to our young men

DH also had the problem of being thought of as the "muscle" on the floor and he has degenerative disk in his back.

I have a female doc now and I will say she pays more att to my health problems than all the male docs I have and had. She is also very smart and seems to know what is going on. When I was in the hospital about 4 yrs ago I had several male nurses and 1 of them was excellent. If I had to start all over and knew then what I know now the medical profesion might get me. Sam

I would say the reason is more like these women have someone out there working their buttarskys off to support the family while they have the luxury of going to school for 4 or 6 or 8 years. Most likely, if you ask them, they were married while attending college and getting their medical training. Of course, most of them dump their husbands as soon as they do not need them any longer, so chances are NOW a lot of them are divorced.

Ask around next time you go and you'll find that I am right.
