Lobolly Pines

Has anyone ever tried to raise these in Missouri? I just orderd 25 from the Conservation Department.Thought I would give my place a Southern flare.

I also orderd 50 White Pines.

Hm. Never knew anyone to plant a loblolly on purpose around here, but then, this area is kind of cold and may be inhospitable to it. Or maybe folks just prefer the fuller trees growing around here. <shrug>

I hope you like them and that they grow beautifully for you!

Well that leaves out what I was thinking of doing planting them around the house.

i used to work at a green house in joplin, we would sell alot of them, the only problem that our costomers would have with them and any other type of evergreen was they wouldnt water them for the first 3 years of life thinking they would get enough water from when it would rain, but it takes several years for there roots to get established in the ground to allow them to get enough water on there own during our hot dry months. and the best tim to plant them is in the fall or earlly during febuary or march if you can.

Well this is what they say about them on their Site.

Native throughout the southern United States. Introduced and grows well in southern Missouri. This is a fast-growing pine that is an important timber tree for the production of lumber and pulp. Similar in appearance to shortleaf pine, but has longer needles and a larger cone. Grows on a wide variety of sites from poor, dry upland to rich bottomland soils.

Oh well it only cost me $3 for 25

They grow well here BRP. We also mix an order of 25 in when we place our annual pine tree order from the conservation department. For fun this year, we added 25 cypress trees to our order, not sure how they'll fail but I guess we'll find out!
