We visited with our granddaughter today.

As some of you know, our DGD, Kayla, had back surgery last Tuesday.

She looked pretty good considering. In a lot of pain but determined to get better. Right now her biggest problem is (to say it nicely) is to get her bowels moving. Again, it's seems to be a hereditary thing because whenever I've had surgery the staff practically had to use dynamite .

Kayla is walking and sitting a bit but very weak. The incision gives me the shivers looking at it. We met her boyfriend and we're impressed! He is home schooled and home churched. His manners are impeccible.

Two of her visitors were her mother's uncles from Green Bay. We hadn't seen each other in years! Man, it was good to see Danny. I remember partying with that guy many a night when we were silly teenagers. Now he is a great, great grandfather. Oy!

Kayla may go home on Monday if her grandpa from Green Bay can bring a hospital bed down here tomorrow.

It sounds like Kayla is dong as well as she could be. It's great news that she's up and walking a bit. As for the bowel problem, ask them to give her at least a quart of orange juice to drink. It works for me when I have that problem. It might be worth a try.

Thanks for the update and Good going Kayla!

Ardie, I'm so pleased to hear that you were able to visit Kayla and that she could be discharged soon. She'll heal so much quicker in an environment she's comfortable with.

Ardie - thanks for the update on Kayla. She's a strong young lady.

Quick healing to her.

I would recommend lots of apple juice or applesauce to get things moving again. That is what we use in my family. Now we just eat a lot of applesauce to avoid that particular problem.

So good to hear that Kayla is doing well. What a tough surgery to go through. I wish her all the best in her recovery.

SHE IS GOING HOME TODAY!

Yesterday, they got "everything" going and then the physical therapist worked with her, teaching her how to get up from a flat, regular bed. No hospital bed for that young woman!

The average stay for surgery like that is seven days, but she wants to go home! She is amazing!

Kayla gained an-inch-and-a-half in height since the surgery. Isn't that something!

Again, thank you for all the prayers, positive thoughts and support!

Just a quick update: It was a long day, a long ride home, but Kayla is home and sleeping comfortably in a bed set up in the living room. Her dad bought an elliptical machine for her to continue her walking program! She logged in 12.5 minutes on it tonight and made herself walk up to the second floor and back down again! It's hard to watch her, knowing that every step hurts, but she is so determined!

We are setting smaller goals for her. I told her maybe if she was doing really well all week, on Friday I may bring her to school to visit for a little while. Next week, maybe a shopping trip because all her tops no longer will fit! Her big goals right now are to be able to go to Ardie's for Christmas and her BF's house for New Years. After that, she intends on returning to school, at least part-time, after the holidays.

If there is one thing she has inherited, its her grandma's determination!

Thanks for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers!

Wow - I'm so glad she's healing well - and an inch and a half! That's huge!

You're right, sounds like she has her grandma's determination!
