making money with blogs

I know this subject has been covered on HT before, and I searched for it with no results... so....

There are some folks here, I recall, making money on their blogs. I'd like to give this a try but I am not finding any free blog sites that allow Google Adsense or other ads on it!

Can any of you steer me toward a blog host that will let me put this information on my blog?

Also, any other ideas how to make a little extra jingle on my site? Selling ebooks, or something like that?

Any help appreciated. Thanks

Blogger does adsense. But dont plan on making much! lol unless you do indeed sell something.
in 2 months I have made just over 47 cents! lol

And yeah, Blogger allows adsense. They're owned by Google.

Oh, I haven't decided yet. I have to find a subject that I know about, that will be interesting to other people. That kind of limits my options LOL

Regarding selling stuff, and other ways to make money, look into affiliate sales. Some things that you can do:

-- If you are discussing music, or TV, you can link to those shows through iTunes and make 5% per download. This is not much, but iTunes goes through Linkshare, which pays out with no minimum. People may not be willing to pay $12 to buy a CD and wait for it to be mailed, for example. but they'll pay $.99 to download one track off the CD.

-- Check out Linkshare's other merchants; you may find some that will match the theme of your blog.

-- If you're talking about a book, gadget, etc. -- sign up for an Amazon account and link to it through Amazon. Depending on the product, Amazon pays between 4% and 20% of the purchase price.

-- Once you have an established blog with a good PR (search engine) rank you can sell links. This has some drawbacks (if Google catches you, they'll reduce your search engine rank, most notably) but it can make more money than advertising in the short term.

-- I don't know if Blogger allows this, but Kontera (Kontera.com) is a nice companion for Adsense advertising.
