Valuable lesson learned today

Never leave a dog alone in the kitchen with a batch of cooling caramel corn.

Stupid dog.

ohh man...we have learned ANY time we leave our home, and the dogs are inside (we have a fenced in back yard so if it is nice they stay out) that ALLLL food items are put up HIGH, when it was just the sheltie and doxie, it was not a issue but the boxer we added to our family in October, can reach the counters to pull things off it, and the dishwasher, SOO on top of the fridge it goes...

I remember about 2 years ago I made popcorn balls for Halloween. I left them on the counter and ran out to the barn. Came back in about 5 mimutes. 2 popcorn balls were missing. I wouldn't have noticed, except the dog had sticky popcorn stuck on her face, ears and legs. She had no clue she had given herself away. The floor was very clean. She would have gotten away with it, if I had been gone for a few more minutes. Now I put all food away, no matter how long I'll be gone.

Edit: My son has a Boxer (Romeo). This dog can sneak food off the counters, like no other dog I have known. We were all getting dinner 2 weeks ago, when I saw that Romeo had something. I asked my son, what does he have? 2 ears of corn my son says. This dog has also taken a steak off the barbacue, and burned his chest. Dogs, what can I say.

I never leave food out-ever! Not only do I have cats that I don't want to encourage up there, it will invite mice. If I have to leave food out, I put it in the oven, cold or the microwave!

Yes, popcorn will cause GAS! Oy vey!!

There is no end to the limits dogs will go to get something yummy! Our old sheltie, larger than usual shelties, pulled off two large bags of Hershey's mini bars from the top of the washer one year. I thought they were well out of his reach. Nope. He and the other sheltie had the runs for days. Besides, no one ever told them chocolate isn't good for dogs!

Our elderly lab, Maggie, sniffed and sniffed at a loaf of fresh French bread on the counter one day a couple years ago. Same thing. Went to the barn and came back to... crumbs. She ate the entire thing. I had to laugh, I've wanted to do that myself! It does smell good when fresh!

Nephew's lab came trotting home one day with a HOT chicken in his jaws that he'd stolen off someone's grill! Taught my sister not to let that dog run loose, as the neighbor saw him do it and called animal control.

LOL - my dog is an out and out thief. I have never been able to cure her of it. She was a stray before I got her and I think she is obsessed with food. If I am having a clear out and leave the room, she will hunt through the bin sack for sweet wrappers to lick, crumbs - anything!

I have been trying to catch up on my paperwork, and I have a bin sack next to my desk full of old papers to be burnt etc. I left her alone in the room the other day and came back to find her up to her neck in my papers. I stood and watched her. She rootled and snuffled and found NOTHING. Suddenly reslized I was watching her, turned arund and gave me the filthiest look you can imagine, as if to say "not even a lick of chocolate" and stalked off to lie on the sofa.

If someone knocks on the door, she will run to the door and give a woof to get my attention, then as soon as I go to the door she will run to the kitchen to steal the cat food while I am distracted.

Dogs huh - you got to love 'em

Stupid dog, you say...smart dog...full dog...puking dog? My answer? OUTSIDE DOG. :P

Ours stay outside most of the time. Or in their cages, in the garage. They do get indoors cuddle and lounging time, but it's well supervised and half the house is gated off, for the cats' benefit!

Poor pup, poor Tracy!
