Kadia turns 21 today!
I must really be getting old to have a 21 year old daughter! She is such a wonderful daughter, a true blessing. I don't know that I have done anything to deserve such great children, but I am surely glad they are in my life.
Another great thing happened, yesterday Kadia and Melvin put a down-payment on an 11 acre piece of land just a few miles from us. They want to pay it off over the next few years and build a house on it. They saved half of their incomes over the summer/fall months and when this opportunity arose they had plenty of money to make the down-payment. They are buying it through a land contract. It is a nice tract.
Cale and I came up with a plan to build a new garage, workshop, and add an apartment to one end for them to live in until they build their house. All of the kids will help us build it and then any of them who want can live in it for a small amount of rent. This will help them out and us also. Then when we are older we will move in it and let Brady take over the main house. He really wants to stay here and live on the place, hopefully that will work out well for all of us. We plan to help the girls get their houses going in whatever way we can also. It is amazing as your children grow older to think of the ways that we can work together to make life better for all of us.

Melissa - how wonderful on all that your family is doing and planning on doing. That young man, Melvin, sounds as if he will fit right in.
I'm really happy to hear that they are getting a start on their land.
Happy Birthday Kadia.

Melissa, you have some great children. From what you write about them you have done a fine job in raising them.
****I don't know that I have done anything to deserve such great children, but I am surely glad they are in my life.****
Doesn't it make your heart swell when you look at those children and know they are your gifts from God. I know that is what I feel when I think about how blessed I am by my children.
Please wish Kadia a happy 21st birthday from me.

Another member of the 'my oldest turned 21 this year'. She's graduating college in December, out in 3 1/2 years. Has a job in her field lined up, making good money with benefits too. She'll live at home to bank up money too - haven't decided if we'll do the formal give-the-folks-rent which we'll more than likely bank or just have her bank it. She's pretty thrifty and has managed to squirrel away money even while attending college.

Congratulations! My oldest turned 21 the day before. I'm guessing you also spent Thanksgiving 1986 in the hospital?

I know EXACTLY what you did Children learn what they've been taught -- and you and Cale have obviously done a marvelous job with your children!

YAY! We got another one Do Kadia and Melvin have memberships here?
As to the apartment idea -- DH and I are in the process of planning a similar thing -- we're going to put in a "guest house" at the back of our property in under the trees. It will be a place for the boys to move to when they're ready to be "out" but not fully "on their own". When they're both off on their own at school or married with their own families, we'll use it as a guest house again, and it can contribute to our income. We're right on the edge of a huge provincial park and we live in an area where a lot of people come to hunt, so we shouldn't lack for guests.
Congratulations on getting Kadia to 21 so successfully, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KADIA!!!

Oh dear. I've really got to pay better attention. I'd read that as: "It's so nice to hear about the good one."
I thought, "Whoa--I really haven't been keeping up on Melissa's kids."

Melissa, It's hard to believe you are old enough to have grown children, glad they are such a joy to you.
