Need advice about Angel Tree gift to buy...

We chose a little girl that is 3 years old and the wish is for a doll. We want to choose an appropriate doll for her but I got to thinking that we don't know if she'd want a white, brown or black skinned one or if it wouldn't matter. Her name is Tiyana if anyone can get a hint by that. What do you all think?

I'd say Tiyana is a pretty across-the-board name as far as race goes.

Maybe you could call the group that put the angel tree together. They might be able to tell you.

I'd get a baby doll. Three year olds like to pack around a baby doll. And maybe a little stroller or a baby bed with some blankets would be fun.

One thing I got when one of my granddaughters was three was one of those little sets with a crown and little glass slippers and a scepter--a "Princess" set. She really loved that.

Maybe something like a Raggedy Ann doll and a copy of the Raggedy Ann story book to go with it?! They come in various sizes, so there should be one that is 3-year-old sized one available somewhere. The book should be available at most any bookstore -- maybe even somewhere like Walmart.

I love giving to the Angel Trees!

Good luck!

I second Dora. Most kids that age are into that one.

So were the Cabbage patch kids, but they were still THE doll to have back in the 80's.

I agree with the Dora suggestion.

my dd like Dora at that age. But a baby doll is always nice to have. I like the idea to about clothes or blankets for the doll- I am going to make - that is attempt to make up some of those little fleece blankets the kind you tie around the edges for both dds american girl dolls. Their Godmother bought beds for all three dolls for Christmas so I thought I would make up blankets for them.

I don't think it matters what "color" the doll is, any little girl will love any babydoll. My girls have all different multicultural dolls and play with them all.

Best would be to call the agency and ask. But, if they won't tell, how about an Hispanic doll? Could be Greek, could be Mexican, could be white with a good tan, could be light skinned black. And I'd get a soft one that is nice to cuddle. Also, make or buy extra clothes, 3 year olds love to take off their doll's clothes and loose them. A little blanket, a baby sling, and a story book to read to her baby.

Yesterday in Wal-Mart I saw the Baby Bratz and I thought she was so cute. My granddaughter doesn't like dolls or I would have bought it for her. She only loves Mater and his friends, "Cars movie".

I'm surprised they did not specify every exact detail of what they wished. I burned out over the last couple year's experiences with angel tree. It's been so bad that now the churches have a clearinghouse on the requests. Seems lots of folks were asking ALL churches for expensive stuff and returning them for money to possibly buy drugs.

I was getting tired of fulfilling Christmas wishes that were beyond what I would purchase for my own kids.

Last year I got requests for 9 yr old twins but one twins sizes for coats/clothes, shoes sounded like a 3X woman. I checked with the clearinghouse and they said, no, both kids wear normal kids' sizes and both were boys. This angel tree is for children.

This year our charitable donation will be going to services for paying utility bills/food bills of local needy families. That makes me feel better about how the money is used/asked for.

I second this suggestion. They can often give you a bit more information if you just call and ask.

I do appreciate all your suggestions. I looked at all the newspaper ads and there were several dolls. There were different versions of Dora and some nice baby dolls with choice of eye color. We'll just have to go look at them, but I will see if I can get more info on the child. I like the idea of extra clothes, blanket & book. My daughter liked the Raggedy Ann suggestion, too.

I never even considered this as a potential problem.

I could see were it could be a problem.

The wife and Ihave been chatting about this. She saws Dora is the way to go. I am told she is Hispanic and ever little kid loves her. I know nothing at all about the doll.

I do love the Angel trees.

My little girl last year specifically asked for an Hispanic baby doll. I about killed myself trying to find one - finally found an inexpensive one at Wal-Mart; it was the ONLY one I could find that had appropriate coloring.

I'm going to try and get my tag earlier this year, just in case there's something else on it that sounds easy but isn't!

Dora would probably be great, but I agree that is one ugly doll!
