My Secret Weapon. (Aprons)

I was blogging this morning about my love of aprons and Why I call it my Secret Weapon.
I'm sure this has been brought up before, But I'm wondering, how many of us wear aprons when we are cooking/cleaning/gardening etc? And if you do... is it just because you wanna keep your clothes clean while cooking? Or is there more to it for you, Like me. I was able to come up with several reasons Aprons were so great!

I have several I wear and they are my secret weapon!

what about you?

I really ought to wear one while cooking, I'm such a messy cook. I like them, just don't have any that I find comfortable and has good coverage. Making myself one is very low on the priority list as well.

clover angel,
Could you post a pic or two with some of your aprons.
I'm looking for one that basically goes all the way around and hooks or buttons in the back. I can't tell you how many shirts and skirts I've ruined cooking without an apron on. Thanks,

I have many fond memories of aprons. At holidays my mother would let us pick out the one we wanted to wear. She had many pretty aprons, and several pretty "every day" aprons.

I always enjoyed ironing them as a girl.

Sadly, I don't wear aprons now, but I have a few of my mother's.

Indeed I do wear aprons. when i am cooking I'm such a mess that i have to cover most of me. when the cooking and baking is finished and the company comes i change into a fancy one. for christmas and other special times I have one my mother crocheted many years ago. I store it in tissue paper for the year.
I also collect vintage aprons. don't wear those. I'm not able to send pictures yet. but i would like to see what other people have. I grew up hardly ever seeing my mother without an apron. I suppose that's where my love of aprons and old lace came from. i do have her special one of course and i do display it on my server. but keep it covered in plastic. ...Georgia.

I like aprons, too. I have a couple of regular skirt-style aprons, another with skirt and bib, and a white Japanese apron, which is like a long-sleeved smock that's open in the back.

I've got a couple of aprons so far. They're a bit lonely since I forget a good bit of the time, but I'm trying to get more into the habit of wearing one.

The next one I want is on the Simplicity website, pattern # 5201. I found this pattern a while back, although it used to be # 7481. This is a slip-on type wraparound apron in either a close to knee length or tea length.

I wear one

when I cook. Other than that - I wear jeans, because I am not afraid to wipe my hands on them when needed I get too hot wearing one all the time.

Last Christmas, the DD, DDILs and I all made aprons. We had a blast. You can tell a lot about a person by the fabric they choose for their apron.

I wear one in the kitchen at all times. But I usually take it off when I leave the kitchen. I make a reversible apron (two different fabrics sewn together) that is warm, just right for these cool days.

My thought was, doesn't that depend on what you are (or are not) wearing under it?

I got into the habit of wearing one when I was a supervisor in a restaurant and I couldn't get away with wiping my hands on my shirt while I cooked. Now if I don't wear one I wind up looking like I wiped the counter with my front.

does anyone know if Sancraft's daughter has a website? I've sent her a PM but didn't get any answer.

Dana I tried to leave a comment on your blog but Blogger did something strange and wouldn't save it.

She makes great heavy duty washable, wearable aprons. I had her make me a garden apron a couple of years ago and I use it for everything. I use it in the garden, in the barn, grooming and trimming hooves. It has lots of pockets to put in small tools and things. It gets washed constantly and is holding up just great.

I have one for the kitchen that I bought and then embroidered on it. I try to remember to put it on but forget a good bit of the time.

LOL, Dana, you are loved dearly here and you know it. I have 2 aprons from waaaaaaaaaaaaay back when I was working in the grocery store...you know the industrial styled apron that is supposed to fit everyone. Well, we all know those don't fit the busty very well...up top. I occasionally will remember I have them and use them in the kitchen(you ought to see alll my "home" clothes with all the stains not worth trying to get out from my work), but really, they don't have good top coverage. I've meant to make some for myself, but we all know how doing something for ourselves get set aside on the back burner.

I think it's time to make some time for me...uhhu...and make an apron that fits proper like.

Debra, dh seems to get all giddy in the uh naughty sort of way when I do wear an apron...I think it's the image of a "french maid" that gets converted in his mind, 'cause lawdy I am sooooooo not french maid material.

My grandmother used to wear an apron and it seems like it had a towel sewn onto it or she hung one on the waist somehow... at any rate, it was handy for drying her hands as we do non-stop while working in the kitchen.

Funny you should post this now, I've been wondering recently if aprons were still around, because I think I'd really like one. I end up a disgusting mess after putzing in the kitchen.

I love my aprons. I have a favorite (bib style with 2 pockets)

My MIL makes aprons (of all kinds - bib w/ skirt, skirt only, top only (big shirt w/o sleeves, buttons in front), big shirt with single button at back of neck.
