What anti-virus software do you use?

My computer is messing up more and more. I think I need some sort of anti-virus software. But I am completely computer illiterate. I would like to get an idea of what the members of HT use, please.

If you click Other, would you please post and say what you use.

Avast! is my anti-virus software. Norton killed my last computer.

Have you de-fragged? Cleared your caches and history?

Look down in the computer board and there's a list of monthly clean up tasks for your computer.

I'm always checking to see if I need to defragment but it always says I don't. I do Disk Cleanup frequently. I'll check the computer board. Thanks.

I did download AVG last week but it seemed like my computer has been getting worse in the last two or three days so I just deleted it. I'll check into it again.

I'll look up the Avast.

I use NOD32. It is the best I have ever seen. Unobtrusive yet extremely comprehensive in its ability to catch bad things. I recommend it very highly.

Clean up then defrag anyway. Then defrag again. My hard drive was barely fragmented but what was, was important.

Been using Avast! for a while on all of our computers. No problems with it and it updates itself sometimes several times a day. We tried Norton and it created so many problems Norton gave us a full refund. One of our computers came with McAffee and it would never run properly -- removed it and put on Avast!. You might also want to consider a good firewall program like Comodo.

AVG.....It is FREE

it works best if you turn off or delete any other virus protecting software (at least this was the case when we had McAfee and Norton)

AVG FREE Edition AVG! By far the best. I've had the others. This one really works.

Agree, came installed already when I bought the computer. Has daily updates and I haven't (knock on wood) any problems. Also run Adaware every few days, boy do you pick up those tracking cookies when you surf the net, Adaware takes care of those.

I have Ad-aware SE Personal and Spybot-Search & Destroy.

I've been using a free version of Spyware Doctor and AVG (which I removed today, now I see where several of you like it, so may reinstall).

I just installed Avast and ran it. It deleted files that for the most part were infected by PurityScan. I've been having problems with this for weeks now. I've tried and tried to get rid of it and nothing works. When Spyware Doctor and AVG said they deleted PurityScan, it was always back, almost right away.

Now Avast has deleted files it says is infected by PurityScan, also. If it doesn't come back I will be very impressed. I want something that will get rid of PurityScan once and for all.
