Great News About My Mom

Since you all have been very kind and patient with me rambling and asking for prayers for my mom, here's an update.

She had surgery this morning. The surgeon just called me and told me
SHE DOES NOT HAVE CANCER!!!!!

Therefore all they did was remove the stone and remove her gallbladder. This is the best-case scenario he told us about, among several worse alternatives, some of which were terribly dire.

So she'll be in the hospital for another week, upon which she will either be released back home or into a nursing home for a couple of weeks, depending on how she does.

Yippeee!

Thanks so much everyone for your prayers, I'd like to think they helped a bunch! Certainly helped ME to know you were doing it. Please continue to keep my mom on your list for a speedy recovery.

Wanted to add this...

During all the tests -- ultrasound exam, cat scan, etc. they saw a tumor in the pancreas. The doctor told me not to worry yet, it may well turn out to be benign, they'd see when they did the surgery. Well when they did the surgery, IT WASN'T THERE. At all.

Miracle? Or just a quirk of the diagnostic technology? I don't know, but we'll take it.

Sometimes people can get cysts in the pancreas. Other times the imaging studies get funny echoes bouncing off other organs.

Glad you're mom is doing well. Now let us hope she doesn't catch anything in the hospital or get any infections from the surgery, and then have the big "woot" when she gets home. Not to be a downer but I just don't trust hospitals that much--too many sick people there!

I know - I'm worried about that too, but this really is an excellent hospital. We have a LOT of hospitals in this area and this is definitely the one I'd pick. Even the food is pretty good. My daughter was born there.

Edayna,

so glad to hear its not cancer. What a blessing. We will continue to pray for her recovery.

My mom goes in the 18th for pancreatic cancer. They know it is cancer but it is the "good" kind. Hopefully she will have as good an outcome as your mom. How old is your mom if you don't mind me asking? Mine just turned 85. I love to see how resilient so many of these people are these days. I am amazed.

I'm so sorry about your mom. I didn't know there was a "good" kind of pancreatic cancer, but I wish you the best of luck and offer prayers on your behalf. My mom's 74, which by some standards isn't all that old...her mother lived to 93...so my mom could still have plenty of good years left. So could yours! It's so important to not give up.

Great news!

Prepare her for the 2 wks at a rehab (nursing home) & try to make it an ok experience. After my mom had surgery, she went for the 2 wks that medicare allows even tho she didn't want to go. But they'll take care of meals, pain, dressing changes, laundry, etc, and this is such a blessing for the family!
