New hens are laying!

I was so excited to find those smaller pullet eggs today. I am a bit surprised as these chicks were hatched the end of April. I wasn't expecting any eggs for at least 3-4 more weeks. Well at least my egg customers will be happy, the other hens have not been laying that great, but they are picking up in production too. I have some hens that are 3 1/2 years old and they are laying huge eggs now.

So far I have found no green or blue eggs from the Ameracaunas, just brown ones from the Golden Comets. I can't wait until I get a colored egg! I will definitely take some pictures of it.

Congrats Melissa......

My girls have been off and on lately..... Some are molting, some just on strike.... ...... I have 16 hens, and get between 9 ~ 12 eggs a day..... I did manage to sell 5 dozen just today.....

As far as the blue and green eggs, Christmas Day (this past year) was when my first showed up.... What a Christmas gift...... ....

Awaiting pics of yours.....

I had my first egg today from my new flock, too, Melissa! Mine seem a bit early, too, but I'm certainly not complaining. The first one to lay was a sweet little silver-laced Wyandotte. I walked in to the coop just as she finished laying, and she had the funniest look -- like she couldn't believe what just happened to her!

I've gotten about 4 pullet eggs now. My old girls are on strike. Between the heat and the bulldozers next to them I think they've just quit. My new girls should kick in full force any time now (I hope). Once it turns cool the old girls are off to freezer camp. I just can't stand doing it in this heat. They've lived a good long 4 years here (they were almost a year when i got them) and I was down to maybe 3 eggs out of the 6 of them so its time. Even the ducks aren't laying right now. I have to go buy eggs today.

I love the baby eggs! They were always fun to watch for, because it means that you have something bigger and better to look forward to.

Ahh. . .you made me miss my chickens. They were the best part of waking up every morning, the kids would go and fetch eggs that we could use for breakfast.
