I don't know too much, but knowing what type and model of laptop will help.

I took my to a computer store, gave them my laptop and told them to make it wireless.

$120 later, it was all better

I use my cell phone company for my wireless card and I love it. I can take my laptop anywhere I go and have access to internet. Pretty much all I know is it runs off of its own cell phone number and its just as fast if not faster as my main computer which is dsl.

my laptop is wireless compatible,
CH's wasn't, so he bought one for $40
have never had a card thru a cell ph co. and as of yet, haven't needed one as we've always been able to connect at the motels we've stayed at.

I also got a phone card through my phone service. It works great. We were relocating and I didn't want to lose contact with online friends.

My new laptop has a built in wireless capability, but for my old one we bought a linksys wireless router with wireless card at Walmart for about $70. I used that laptop at hotels, airports, malls, and coffeeshops with free wireless. I think you can buy just the card for about $40.
