Do your children think you can read their minds?

Yesterday my dd took a babysitting class. One thing the learned was household safety. They told them to be careful if you open all the drawers on a dresser as it might tip over. This morning (mothers, can you see where this is going?) she and ds decided to try it. There was a heavy vase on top of the dresser.

They came down to tell me the results of the experiment. Very exiting stuff. The dresser did indeed tip over!

So Jon says...

"Hey Mom, a heavy thing fell on me and my back hurts."

"What heavy thing?"

"The vase on the top of my dresser."

"Oh dear, are you ok? I'm sorry about your back."

Jon, very disgustedly, "No, Mom, my back doesn't hurt anymore, the heavy thing fell on my foot!"

:O He stomped/limped off to the kitchen where he is making me a cup of tea, mumbling about me needing to wake up.

Parents learn what their kids like. I have done the same. Sometimes they will be excited about some new movies comming out, or one of our animals giving birth, and when they aske me, "guess what?", and I tell them what I think they were thinking they ask, "how did you know that?". I tell them "I can read your mind".

I dont know if my 15 year old has figure it out yet, but my younger ones think I can read thier minds. lol kids are way cool.

My 2 teens know I can second guess them a lot of the time (they leave enough 'evidence' around it's obvious if you look), but I catch'em by surprise sometimes... and they surprise me from time to time too.

As for the experiments... My son was given a few "recipes" for making concoctions that "blow up". This is "way cool" to a 17 yr old, but Mom is less than happy 'bout it.

When my kids ask, "How did you know?"

I tell them I am a circus psychic, when they are mommies I will teach them the secret.

My kids are so obvious I usually know something's up 2 days ahead of time. No way am I going to tell them about the clues and tells they leave scattered all over the place!

For many years, my children thought I had eyes in the back of my head!

Mine thought I could see around corners.

Also, I told my blue-eyed boys their eyes turned green when they fibbed. When they would duck their heads so I couldn't see them - I knew they were trying to lay one on me.

What a neat little trick! I will have to use that with my ds next time. :baby04: I use the glass in the picture frames on the wall to actually see behind me. It catches DS's and DD everytime.

Hmm, not sure if they always thought I could read their minds, but my youngest dd thought for years that I could talk to the animals and that I could understand them...and now she claims SHE can, lol!

Off the topic really - but re talking to the animals.

We were parked in a state park in central Texas. =

There were a bunch of feral cats in the park. The first week, I started putting out canned cat food - then moving it closer to the motorhome each day. After about a week, I put it right beside my loungechair and sure enough they came up to eat. Silly me, I thought I would reach down and pet those cats. Two of them ripped my hand open. So I fed them at a distance from then on. The boogers were very wild.

Our daughter came down to visit us and during the night I got up and she was not in bed and the door was unlocked. I opened the door and there was a bright full moon. We had an open spot near us - no other campers. She was sitting out there cross legged, in that bright moonlight with all those wild cats climbing all over her just loving and nudging her.

It was something to see.

She is truly a cat person, though - don't know about other animals.

One day when DS was about 5 years old I company for tea, and we were sitting in the kitchen. The kids were in the living room out of our line of sight, but we could still hear very well. DS had been doing something in recent weeks that I didn't want him to do (I don't remember what it was!!), I heard a sound that triggered me to call out from the kitchen "Jamie, don't ....(whatever)". Conversation carried on with my company, and a few minutes later Jamie is in the kitchen pushing a chair up behind me and lifting my hair up (gently) by the handful. I asked him what he was doing. His reply? I'm looking for them eyes!!!

For the life of me I can't remember what it was that he was doing, but I can still hear his little voice - I'm looking for them eyes!!
