Teenage boys and shoes!!

OY! I have two teenage boys.... 6'6 and wears a 14 - the other is 6'3 and wears a 13...... Man, is it hard to keep them in shoes...... arent' boys just extremely hard on shoes??? Always have been.... even when they try to be careful...... DD hardly wears hers out before she grows a size, and the boys seem to be tearing them up before they even get to the next size! (which they wear until they change sizes!!)

We can still find shoes for the size 13 in local places (its getting difficult) but the size 14 has killed him since he started working in the deli department... The chemicals *mainly bleach seem to eat right through just about ANY pair of shoes the boy buys.... They hose equipment down and his feet are constantly getting wet!! YUCK! (they smell bad enough without that "wet dog" smell added!!)

To make his search even more difficult, they must be completely BLACK; 6-8" boots (due to a bad ankle);slip & oil resistant and WATERPROOF!!! He would prefer a side zip but that wasn't a deal breaker!!

He and I both called about 10 places in the local area and I swear a couple of them LAUGHED at me!!! We wanted quality but couldn't afford the $220 several places were selling... He was looking at tactical type boots worn by police officers and etc.... when it occurred to DS that we might have ONE military store here in town.. and he was right....

After a phone call, he and DH went down to the military store and he bought a pair of black waterproof 10" Altama infantry combat boots (ICB)!! The guy had the only pair of 13s left and it fit DS beautifully.... They found the zipper/lace thing that makes them a zip up boot!! Total cost was $125!!! Once he got home he checked online and found NO ONE had the identical pair for under $140.00 w/o shipping!! I am so glad he thought of that place!!

And for that price, they had better last him a mighty long time!! He hopes they do too!! *He paid for them

Just sitting here wishing I had thought of military boots a long time ago!! Think of the $$ I could have saved on all those other shoes over the years!

Now thinking about CAMO clothing.... hmmmm.... we like the color camo.... hides stains..... washes well.... lasts long ..... get those camo shirts on clearance at wal-mart for $2 end of season.... hmmmmm... laundry would be a breeze!! HA!

We buy most of our shoes off of eBay -- we have four boys and it is very hard to find shoes that not only fit properly but that they will like. Our youngest 2 are twins and they don't want matching shoes, so that makes it even harder but their sizes are only 1/2 size apart. Oldest is now 17 so he is getting old enough to work and shop for himself. Can't wait for the others to get a little older.

Ken,
doesn't buying shoes off ebay make it even more difficult for the correct FIT? DS was so very reluctant to order online because of the possibility of them not fitting correctly.... and I have to admit I was as well....

DS asked for my help this time because of his previous experience in the last 6 months making choices that OBVIOUSLy didn't work out! I didn't mind helping him, it just was so difficult to find someone who carried that size anymore!

Not really, my size is 14, and then we go down a little on each boy from there -- we can compare sizes by letter one try on his brothers shoes and see a little bigger or smaller here or there. Never had a problem with size for them but we did order a pair of shoes for MIL and she fussed up a storm -- has to be a certain make shoe in a certain size and narrow, but they stopped making that shoe and so she keeps shopping until she finds one left over in stock somewhere.

We were just discussing getting shoes on eBay at work earlier today and one guy bought Florsheim dress shoes for his son at about $35.00, brand new in the box. The same shoes were available locally for over $75 -- they arrived and fit perfectly. His son is getting ready for job interviews and also spent over $500 for dress clothes -- I hope my kids want to be in the trades !!!

Get a can or 2 of Silicone Waterproofing Spray to treat them with and they will last MUCH longer.

My DH is 6'6" and wears a size 17 shoe....my size 10 shoes fit inside his shoes just fine! (usefull when dressing as a clown)

It is however, a lot easier to find shoes for him now than it was 20 years ago.

Holy cow batman, size 17?!?! WOW.
My son is 15 and wears a size 13, bordering on a 14. When do they stop growing?????
God Bless,
Michele
