Business Name Advice

Hello Everyone!

My daughter finished massage therapy school in March and tomorrow she takes her National Boards. She made Valedictorian of her class and she already has a space to open her business. The only thing she doesn't have is a name for her business. She wants to eventually specialize in expectant mothers, women, and teaching infant massage to parents. For now, she will work with anyone...lol. She already has a beginning clientelle that is waiting for her to be licensed.

If anyone has any ideas we sure would appreciate it!!

Thanks!

Anniebek

ps...Megan just said that the best idea will get five free massage services (massage, reflexology, spa treatment, etc). The only catch is that we live in Mobile, Alabama and you would have to come to her!!

How about "Generations Theraputic Massage" or
"Kindred Spirits" (Kindred in this context meaning a family) "In a Family Way Massage Therapy" "Great Expectations Theraputic Massage" or "Great Expectations Body Works".

Our daughter is LMT (OH) and has had her own massotherapy business in PA for 3 years. She uses her name with 'Massage by' in front of it. (i.e., Massage by Joan A. Doe)

On her business card, she lists the types of massage she offers: Swedish Relaxational, Therapeutic Deep Tissue, Sports, Shiatsu, Chair, Pregnancy, Pediatric and Adolescent. She especially likes working with moms and kids.

Her business is in a small shopping area. When she first opened up, she handed out $5 off coupons to the employees that work in that area and posted ads in the local press for her grand opening.

The local police and fire departments allow massotherapy under insurance coverage alternative health care, and she was able to become involved with that program.

She keeps her client base on her computer and keeps tracks of their appointments. I'm not sure if she still does this, but when she first opened her business, if a client referred 3 people, the client received a free massage.

She was able to barter a sign for her business, she got the sign, the signmaker's daughter and wife got the massages.

Sorry I don't have any clever ideas for your daughter's business name. But I wish best of luck to your daughter and her new adventure!

regards,
keljonma

I really like the idea of putting one's name in the business name. It's a good identifier and shows pride in the business. But don't make it too restrictive, because business aims and goals can change down the road and you don't want to be exclusive to those.

A local outfit that started as a nail salon was called "Just Nails." They've added a whole bunch of other stuff and are now, "Just Nails -- Not Just For Nails!" It makes me laugh every time I hear their ad on the radio.

I have named several of my own businesses. I would suggest that she does not use her name or a family name. This way when or if she ever wants to sell the business, the name can remain the same. I've made that mistake and regretted it.

A name should identify what the business does. Do not go for CUTE names that can confuse the public.

Familly Serenity -- Let's people know it's for the entire family. The purpose - makes one serene -- and Let's those wishing for less family like benefits know they are not high on the list of potential clients

Good luck and congrates to your daughter,
Marlene

Happy Hour Massage makes me think of a "Happy Ending" at the end of the massage... we have HUGE issues here in town with Asain massage parlors that offer just that ... happy endings.

Be careful when you pick a name so that it's not too cute and also not too shady

There are some great names here! I will share them with Megan when she gets home. By the way, she passed her national board this morning!

Thanks, and keep them coming!

Does Personal Touch Massage sound too trite, or too suggestive?

Family Serenity Massage sounds great. If you do foot massages, you could call it Crack-a-Toe-a. (okay, that was corny!)
