I need help with a sticky situation
My Husband had his gall bladder removed Thursday Morning. He was allowed to remove the bigger bandages today. He still has the suture tape across the incisions. The Bandages have left a sticky residue on Bob's belly. I have tried alchohol, cocobutter, olive oil and finally Ivory soap and water. We got some of the sticky off, but he is still covered. Any suggestions on how to remove this gunk would be appreciated. Remember it is close to fresh incisions. Thanks.

Can you take a q-tip and tip in nail polish remover and gently try that?
Also, I think I've heard that ice on the goo will help it roll up. And I know duct tape or masking tape takes most residue glue off packages, so that might work.

Recently had that same problem myself! Actually, I just gave up and waited for the sticky to WANT to come off...I was scrubbing myself raw trying to get it off. After four weeks, most of it is now gone...

Maybe petroleum jelly would get it off. Put it on and rub. With luck it might roll off.

Wipe it with WD-40 but be careful not to get it into the incision. Wash off the residue with hot water and soap.

baby oil and a cotton ball. Works when other things won't.

Yes, baby oil. If you don't have any, you could try bath oil or cooking oil.

Maybe a little peanut butter... it gets chewing gum out of hair, maybe it'll get stickies off a belly.

no Problemo I will just buy some more.....NOT....the grocery stores are OUT!!!!

If you have a medical supply place nearby, you can get individauly packaged adhesive rem0ver wipes that will take that adhesive right off and not risk infecting the wound.
Here's one brand, there's a lot of choices.

Let it be...after a week or two it'll be gone. Some things are just not worth working so hard at. (Major surgery 5 months ago--nothing took the sticky off except time.)

Peanut butter took a little off, but just made it stickier. I am afraid of fingernail polish remover that close to the incisions. I am going to try the cocnut oil and soap and water again. We have most of it off, but not all. If it were me, I would quit, but he wants it off. LOL

Would a blow drier on low heat soften it enough to help it dissolve?
Need one of the nurse members to check in and tell you what the pro's do.

Isnt that stuff acetone?Cant remember for sure(can someone verify that?),but its what we use at work(those pads).Otherwise,I would just leave it go,dont want to mess with the wound area too much.IMHO!

Mineral oil will work. So will orange essential oil. Keep the orange oil away from that insision, tho! And be really gentle trying to get the sticky off - the area around the incision is really tender and sensitive.

O.K., have you tried any of these yet. Oil seems to be what is mostly recommended. It is used in all sorts of sticky-stuff removal situations. I have used it before on bandage tape.
Anyway, just wondering if you were successful in removing it?
Peace and smiles,

I haven't read the other responses...but I'm thinking you might be doing more harm then good. Wouldn't it actually be better to give the incision(s) more time to heal/close before you keep risking getting something you don't want in them? The sticky isn't causing in discomfort is it?
Hugs
