I went and got the pickup

So many of you gave me good advice a couple of weeks ago about my husband's pickup. (It had been in a shop for a new engine for 2 years--and we prepaid him $1700.).

I called an attorney and he wanted $87.50 for a 1/2 hour consultation. Forget it!

I decided against going to small claims court. I know I could get a judgment, but the guy I'd be sueing has several kids, child support, probably would never be able to pay anything anyway. So decided against that.

I called a wrecker and had it towed to another garage today (very reliable and trustworthy.) I also found out that what it needs is an oil filter that goes under the engine but a different kind works just as well (adapter). The guy admitted to me that it was his fault that it cracked, because he left it sit out that long.

The other garage said it would cost $150. for the part. Stay tuned....I hope this is the end of it. But I've learned one thing in life, "It's not over til the fat lady sings."

When and if it gets fixed up I'm going to put it right out by the highway with a FOR SALE sign on it.

.................I'm happy you got your truck Back , but is this deadbeat going to REfund your 1700 OR even pay the current repairs estimate to get it going a gain . I think your letting him get away with murder , by appealing to your emotional sensiblities . Take him to small claims court and get a judgement against him , EVEN IF you have NO intention of enforcing IT .
Hope everything works out for the best . fordy...

I am certainly glad that you now have a light at the end of the tunnel!

I would, however, NOT forget about the cash already paid to this guy. That is your money and you and your family worked hard and sacrificed for it.

He DID put the new motor in it--in December. Trouble was, by the time he did it, a whole bunch of other stuff had deteriorated. He started replacing stuff, but stalled out on this last part. (2 months ago)

I think it will cost less than $500. to get it back in shape with this good mechanic, and I DO NOT INTEND to pay that guy. I am reasonably certain he won't send me a bill. (I talked to him today.)

If he does...then I would take action.

I may be able to get about $4000. out of the pickup if I get it running. I am hoping for that.

If it's fixed....Why not keep it?

It's tough to get a good pickup with a good engine for $4,000.00......
