"Don't I look bored again?"
My 3 year old just wandered out where I was sitting and said "Mom, don't I look bored again?" Then he wanted to know shouldn't he watch a movie or something - I told him no, that meant he should go to his room and find his cars, Thomas or Lincoln Logs and play with them.
Kid has entirely too much of a vocabulary for his age.

Put him to work! When my kids were small if they even looked like they might be bored I gave them a small job to do. They thought it was fun and they could be very helpful. Things like running the sweeper, give them a damp rag to wipe down wood-work, spray bottle of water and dish soap to clean the tub (they loved this) a basket of rags or towels to fold, windex the sliding glass door, dust mop the tile floors, mate socks-they just laid out the ones that went together and I checked them. Well, you get the idea.

Kids say the darndest things. I was talking to my 5 year old niece about her sister who just turned 18. I said something like “Wow, she’s really getting to be a big girl now, huh?” The 5 year old replied “Yeah, but she doesn’t act like it.” I nearly choked trying not to laugh!
I agree with Melissa – put him to work!

Yes, I will. As soon as my mother-in-law stops talking in my other ear; she's currently talking about HER in-laws and the problems she's having helping with a bathroom remodel at her mother-in-law's house. I swear, when this woman gets on a roll and you better not even think about interrrupting her!
When I do get off here (and the phone), I'm going to feed this boy lunch, and then we're off to clean the bathrooms and strip the kitchen floor and put polish on it. He is a good helper; he is always wanting me to fold clothes so he can fold his own socks. Last week he did it and even matched the colors up right on the tops. (so proud of himself!)
But she's still talking - now about how much weight she's gained since she quit working full time, how sick she's been this last week (weird headache, they've actually done a catscan), and what they had for dinner last night.

lol. I seem to be channeling my mother more and more when I hear that kind of thing. "It's not a grown-up's job to keep children entertained." , and "Find something to do, or I'll find something FOR you..."
Christine - I have a few relative like your MIL...it's less a converstaion, than me listening to a soliloquy!

Yep, that's my sweet mother-in-law, alright! Even Lance hates to get on the phone with her. She's been known to make lists of things she wants to tell you (literally, not in her head), and then she tells you one right after the other. When she gets all through the list, she'll say "Well, I'd better get off of here and ---. I'll talk to you later, bye."
Ah well, it keeps us entertained (or annoyed, alternately).

Haha - he's not bored right now.
Daddy has all three of them outside helping throw brush on the burn pile while he finishes cutting up the elm tree that was taken out last week to make room for the new barn.
And later, he'll not be bored making his bed and cleaning his room because we're having company tonight!

Christine.......wierd headache, just aches, not really hurts. Kind of sloshes areound? I know you would hate to be on the phone with your MIL but what she has could be toxins. If so no doc would ever find it. Ask her, tell her to cut her diet, see if that works. Then hang up!

Sullen, I don't know about the sloshing part - but apparently she did "something" last weekend and I couldn't understand exactly what. She's feeling better the last couple of days, but I'll ask her if she's had any changes to her diet the last few weeks. Generally they watch what they eat, and she's not overly adventurous - she does love raw oysters (ick, double ick), but I don't think she's eaten them since we were on vacation about 4 1/2 years ago.
What type of toxins, by the way - or rather, what foods are you thinking may have had some influence?
Oh, and no danger of the phone today - they've gone back to Tulsa to work on that infernal bathroom again. They'll be home tomorrow, we're taking care of their chickens.
