Flies!

Okay, I have FLIES on my deck. FLIES, people. This is CANADA. It's JANUARY.

I have a south facing, sheltered deck. It's 62F on it right now. It's January. JANUARY.

Sorry. I'm a little disturbed by this weather. Nicely disturbed, of course -- anything is better than a snowstorm -- but I really hope that this isn't an indication of what summer is going to bring or OH BOY are we in for a hot one!

the weather has been weird in Ontario and really mild up untill a couple weeks ago. I know the first morning it was -30 it was quite a wake up call especially as one hasdnt had a chance to acclimatize to the cold . But flies in january thats trippy for sure.

I think climate change is predicted to make winter and nighttime temps higher also it will have a larger impact on the higher latitudes than closer to the equator.

We had frogs calling in mid-November in 2005.

You have flies and warm weather because we got your winter down here in the ozarks!
Shame on you for sending it our way!
I was supposed to be getting my garden ready to plant, not cleaning up ice storm damage all over the place.

We all know that SW mo is almost the south. period! NOT the north tundra.
I mean...... REALLY!

This is just the beginning folks ! Can you imagine what's happening to the plants & animals ? Sap is running in trees, geese & ducks don't know where to go, insects are hatching, are the fruit trees getting enough chill ? How does this affect mating seasons & reproduction cycles ? Malaria carying mosquitoes that used to be kept out of colder regions are now in there.
You can also expect more Katrina like storms also. It's not just that the globe is warming, there's a precipitous rise in carbon dioxide levels that causes the globe to warm, and what do you think is the main contributor to that ?

what i want to know is how to get rid of them - they are in inbetween farmers porch roof and the vinyl covering underside with pin dots - do i have to cut a hole and bomb it. There are lots and some are coming in the house and i'm horrified at it. Now i'm used to it, but this is too much and i worry about the spring.

Tracy, worry not, I hear we have some cold weather coming in at the beginning of February - which happens to be a month I really don't enjoy. For some reason, it always seems cold, dark and nasty. I guess that's why someone was nice enough to make it shorter than the rest.

Today was colder, Kathy -- but yesterday was wild! I can't get over the difference in the winters even from just a few years ago. Flies in January -- crazy!

February will probably be crazy-cold -- then March and spring will be just around the corner . I can't complain about the mild winters, really -- I really dislike cold and snow -- it's just that I think we in southern AB are in for a dry, hot summer if it keeps up.

I hope to be at the new property come June or so -- maybe I'll miss it!

I have to laugh when I read this.
Strange, unseasonable weather is not new folks.

I remember when we came to Joplin Mo from Columbus Ohio for Christmas one year and our baby got sick and ended up in the hospital because it was 80 in Joplin that Christmas and we had snow on the ground all winter that year in ohio. Not normal!
Once when I was a teen my Friends and I went swimming in February in Shoal Creek in Joplin because it had been over 80 for two weeks and the water was warm. We swam in the river and rode our bikes home and dried off that way.
March turned bitter cold and so was April that year. We got lots of snow then too. Not normal at all. We would sit all bundled up in the lunch room at school and say "did that really happen? NAW!!! Couldn't have!" but it did.

In the 70's one march we got two feet of snow and that didn't melt and the last day of march we got 3 feet of snow. We tried to get home from work and we hung the car up in the air by making a run down our alley. Snow packed up under it and lifted us up in the air. We just left it there and walked home. We loved snow then and had lots of fun in it.
